The thing is, has COVID in another guise already done the rounds and we simply discounted it because infection did not result in death?

I recall being ill four years back in Jan 2016, peak time for the Chinks here in Pattaya, with symptoms very similar to those exhibited by COVID i.e fatigue, headaches, a throat so sore it was like swallowing razor blades and then a dry cough and general debility.

The science is just catching up but what we need quickly is an advance in a cheap and swift serological testing regime so that people can find out if their blood contains antibodies indicating a previous COVID-like infection.

Testing and tracing in general is clearly the key.

It's a flu, so of course people have had similar in the past.

And my word, even BoJo seems to realise there's a problem now.

These syphilis symptoms may come and go for up to 2 years. They include body rashes that last 2 – 6 weeks — often on the palms of your hands and the soles of your feet. There are lots of other symptoms, including mild fever, fatigue, sore throat, hair loss, weight loss, swollen glands, headache, and muscle pains.
    A good night was it?

Let that be a lesson, it's possible that none of this would be happening if inconsiderate bastards bothered to forward that message to 10 other people.

But does prior infection by an antecedent of COVID-19 confer some form of immunity against its current iteration?

Remember, the Spanish influenza outbreak in 1917/18 mainly killed those in the 20-40 age range so it may be there is a DNA to be traced here that accounts for the caprice of a disease that leaves the majority with a 'touch of the flu' symptoms and then blasts others with full blown pneumonia killings them.

I'm not sure what it is you are trying to say. Indeed, you may not know yourself but the body's immune system will develop antibodies against this infection. Scientists are very much working on a test now that identifies them quickly and efficiently and several have reported successes but studies are awaited. It is serological and has fuck all to do with testing for infection by the virus which is completed by swab checks.

no it will not as it does not recognize it as an infection - it is a RNA virus

Yeah --uh, so are dengue, Zika, enterovirus, influenza A and B. People quite happily make antibodies against those, and they will do so against this virus if infected.

Baldrick is correct... An animal virus that mutates to humans leaves a gap in our immune system - hence, why they are so dangerous; no inherent immunity and no ready vaccine/immunisation (another two reasons why it's different from the seasonal flu).

Actually just thought back to yesterday, triggered by seeing an article stating McDs is shutting all its UK stores. The ladies at he tills yesterday all sat there with no protection all day with hundreds of people passing them - seems a bit risky.

I don't give a crap what your daughter has said.
