Europe is not in good shape...

If the growth curve parallels Korea then they'll be, what, 500,000+ cases in Europe by the end of month (or sooner). I didn't really expect Europe to be so bad, so quickly...

^ sadly, I've been right all along while other folks have been way off the mark. I'd be much happier in this instance to be completely wrong - a lot of people are gonna die; we are only 4 months into this virus which has been projected to grow for 12-18 months at least.

ChokDee is fine, Korea is in quite good shape, so all the more worrying/confusing that Europe is looking so bad.

Korea jumped from about 50 to 7000 in a week then levelled off and hasn't grown much since. Let's hope Europe levels off and the numbers stop growing very quickly (not optimistic on that).

Betts, I don't dispute the numbers. Its all unprecedented and measures are now being taken. We are involved in equipment discussions with the Govt for manufacturing various kit inc ventilators. Set all that aside inc measures for containment.

We have estimates now on social segregation time frames and they are looooong. As a society we have never faced measures which isolate us in this manner. In my opinion its going to be a sense of social responsibility and more importantly humour which is going to keep us sane in isolation and at least we have tinternet and vid comms - so lets fall back on the pillars of being a Brit namely bad teeth, bad hygiene and proper piss taking and i'm sure we'll get through this.

Tunisian President Kais Saied on Friday ordered a general lockdown, restricting public movement to counter the spread of the coronavirus.

Speaking in a televised broadcast, Saied said he was asking the majority of people to stay at home and stopping movement between Tunisian cities.

The announcement came a day after the tiny North African country registered its first coronavirus death. The southern Mediterranean country has reported 39 coronavirus cases, and has closed mosques, cafés and markets.

Tunisia’s land and maritime borders have also been shut and international flights suspended to try to contain the pandemic.

UK offering a reverse taxation system to allow HMRC to pay employers up to £2,500 a month per employee - that is fairly ground breaking and must piss off Sausages and his UK hating mates. All i can say is well done.

Precisely. There's a lot of selfishness and me me me in today's world and it's on show for all with this virus. What a not so shockingly sad state of affairs it is.

Company went to minimum manning Tuesday, all comms through Bus Skype. Now, we make stuff and making stuff is not happening until we get the go ahead from the Govt to make stuff so there is a load of wtf is going on.

We are working with other Cos to look at specs for emergency kit but for me the concern is that what i make is xxx and so you can't just shut that down and walk away.

I have been on remote with the staff ensuring the product gets handled safely and backlog is wound down chronologically to a dialed down level that can be managed with low staffing. I am going to have to travel tomorrow to sort the safety stuff and take over from some great lads and lasses who have pulled long shifts..its all on the hoof but in the industry i deal in hoof ain't in the vocab.

All good though and lets hope the measures have the desired effect.

Just in case you think you are safe....

Yes, Young People Are Falling Seriously Ill From Covid-19

New evidence from Europe and the U.S. suggests that younger adults aren’t as impervious to the novel coronavirus that’s circulating worldwide as originally thought.
Despite initial data from China that showed elderly people and those with other health conditions were most vulnerable, young people — from twenty-somethings to those in their early forties — are falling seriously ill. Many require intensive care, according to reports from Italy and France. The risk is particularly dire for those with ailments that haven’t yet been diagnosed.

Yep, until they bring it home to their parents or grandparents, then a big case of reality will hit them like a ton of bricks.

I am now working 100% remote via WebEx or Skype Business. Access to the 2 factories are blocked and limited to operations staff only. Staff entering the factory are being strictly controlled. Both factories are class 10,000 or better which means operators wear full cleanroom suits, gloves and masks.

I still think a shutdown is coming. Makes no sense to build product that can't ship or be used at OEMs.

That said, no reported cases at either factory and in calls with other colleagues here at other major CMs still operating, they too have no reported cases at this point.

IMHO they should stop operations and take strict action to self quarantine to stay ahead of the virus.

Trump Assures Americans He Called 911 To Report Coronavirus

WASHINGTON—Saying he was on top of the situation and the disease would not be spreading any further, President Donald Trump assured the nation Friday that he had called 911 to report the coronavirus pandemic and that help was on its way. “I just got off the phone with 911, they are aware of the situation, and we’ll soon have this thing taken care of,” the commander-in-chief said during a televised address on Covid-19, urging all 330 million Americans not to worry because emergency response personnel should be arriving to assist them any minute now. “I made sure to tell the operator this thing was important, and she agreed with me. So everyone should just relax and wait for them. They can send the fire department and the ambulance or both, and then they can probably give you a flu shot or something like that. It’s good. We’re in good shape.” At press time, White House sources confirmed the president had dialed 911 again to tell them that everything was actually fine and the nation didn’t need their help at all.
