Transport Department to Crack Down on Modified Headlamps

The Department of Land Transport has announced it will be taking action against vehicle owners modifying their headlamps. This comes after the department received complaints from road users about overly bright headlamps.

Director-general, Chanthira Burutpat, said road users complained about their vision being disturbed by vehicles that had modified their headlamps/tail lights and/or had installed additional lamps to produce brighter beams.

She also said there were reported cases of vehicle owners modifying their lights into different colors.

The director-general has ordered DLT’s provincial branches as well as private car inspection centres to strictly follow regulations on vehicle lights. Any vehicles that don’t comply with the regulations will be failed forcing the owners to fix the issues.

The DLT has also collaborated with the police by dispatching inspection staff to police checkpoints nationwide. At which they will perform random checks,” she said. “Vehicles that violate the regulations will be issued tickets immediately.”

    Maximum of two front headlamps

According to the Nation, the DLT’s regulations specify that all vehicles must install a maximum of two front headlamps. Providing lower angle beams, and a maximum of two front lamps providing far-reaching beams.

The lamp lights must be white or light yellow and installed at the same level both left and right. At least 40cm above the road level but not exceeding 135cm.

Even more indicator lights must be bright yellow and capable of blinking; they must be installed in pairs at the front and 2-4 lights at the back. Brake lights must be red and not blinking, installed in pairs or 4 lights at the back. The light illuminating the license plate must be white and must help make the plate readable in the dark.

I've seen a few blue front headlights and blue/purple rear lights around. The cops fighting fund will be getting a dividend soon.

There good at finding 'crimes" to "crack down" on, not so good at actually cracking down though, as many crack downs as they have they can only improve, they could maybe revisit some of the earlier escapades which included, double decker busses, exhaust omissions, modified exhausts, crash helmets, passengers in pick ups, more than two passengers on a bike, driving license - or lack off, drunk driving, overloaded trucks, seat belt use, mobile phone use, unrestrained kids in vehicles etc.... Then they could have a go at actually enforcing existing law and stop people driving on the wrong side of the road, maybe even have a go at dangerous drivers, they could even shut down the numerous shops that sell all these illegal accessories?
Just need a functioning Police force!

As I have seen with these "Crackdowns" they are really nothing more than options to take money at the road side stops, there is no reall fix it ticket where they have to come back and show they did what the ticket had been handed out for.

The bright light issue in the report is nonsense. Most newer cars all have HID now and are just brighter by design. I seldom ever see a vehicle with lights that are blinding. Now in fairness you have a lot of little Honda Toyota cars that are much lower then the huge number of pick up trucks.

If anything I would like to see more "Crackdowns" for lights that you can barely see, especially on the big trucks and their trailers (Scooters too). Also they need to stop allowing passenger vehicles to have the same LED red and blue flashing lights like the ambulance does and honestly the ambulances need to only turn them on when its an emergency not just keep them on and cruise down the highway.

But to do all that would take consistency and a legitimate police force which we all know is NEVER going to happen in our lifetimes. So it is, what it is.

    Whoops, guilty!

    LEDs.

Not that bright though to be fair and actually a safety improvement since the old sealed beams were utter shite (not that I ever really drive it at night but still).

Anyways was just in today getting new tax cert and no issues so all good.

    Halogen headlamps....
Can be quite distracting - especially displayed high beam in remote darkened areas.

So, the blue lights that abound are to be removed, eh? The thing is, these idiots are pretty much useless at everything they do so like all initiatives, it will simply b ignored.

The black tinted windows obscuring any sight into the car's compartment that is pretty much de rigour for any swinging dick is par for the course in this stupid country but banned in most civilised countries the world over not least because of criminality but also because no fireman can see into a blazing car if there are any occupants to be rescued.

Honestly, dos this ridiculous place do anything right?

I think you should be grateful if they bother with lights at all.

I have to admit, although I would not have given that kind of car a second glance 30 years ago, I think they look kind of cool to look at now.

Cars with curves and chrome from the 60s, 70s and 80s are a pleasure to look at imho.
