^ l'm sure a lot of us have a fireworks story or two from our youth, although I can't ever imagine looking down a lit firework. We used to have big battles in the woods fighting between air raid shelters when I was a kid. The air bombs were a favourite to use as mortar fire.

Hope you learnt your lesson, never to run away when someone goes down....

^The "Fireworks Code" was drilled into us as kids. One of the standouts was "never go back to a lit firework". Back then in the UK there were enough really fucking dangerous fireworks freely available at any corner shop, and everyone loaded up for "Bonfire Night" on November 5th. -Probably the busiest night for the local Fire Service and hospital A&E dept.

Seen the vid of this hapless guy. Obviously pissed-up and oblivious to any danger as the fuse fizzes away inches from his face. 1st Darwin Award of 2020.

    Reliving their youth, of course.

I let off fireworks in Thailand for that reason, but would never use something big.

Wouldn't mess with Thai/Chink fireworks or let my kid light one; closest I've come is to pay for more courageous/unwitting dads to buy and set them off.

I have yet to be in a bar that does not have a male employee somewhere - dj, bouncer, barman, shelf stocker.

Or are you just trying to be a dick?

I don't know about now but popular among fireworks in the PI late 80s was a small (about 3-4cm) flat triangular banger with a very short fuse; the natives would light and hold one till it sparks then flick it away pronto because it would explode within about a second. Could've been a macho thing, I don't know, but the day after every festival there were reports of the number of fingers lost, together with stats much like Thai body counts at Songkran/New Year.

^I remember them well, use to buy huge boxes of fireworks for 500 Piso in the 80's and those triangular ones were always mixed in with the rockets and roman candles and other assorted WMD's. Having seen the carnage caused by said ordnance each year in person or on tv news, and not having any desire to lose fingers/eyes, my way of lighting any of it would be with a piece of lit mosquito coil taped to a length of bamboo.

I remember a Thai lighting one of those nine shot ones in Chiang Mai. The first shot knocked it on its side and the other eight went into a bar on the other side of the moat.

Thankfully the explosions weren't very big and everyone had dived out of the way, although I suspect the bar owner was none too pleased.

The description of the accident is not so surprising as the video showing the stupidity of a man doing such thing not only in the vicinity of cars (he is working on) but also putting his head inside the cannon barrel.

And there are here people who like to say Thai people are stupid...

I remember being down soi 7 about 10 years ago and putting one of those big fireworks on my shoulder and and shooting like an RPG... was hilarious the time and a few did the same as well..... none of us were stupid enough to put our head over the thing and light the fuse though.
