SHOCK OF HIS LIFE; CORPSE FALLS FROM TREE IN FRONT OF MAN

A man was relaxing under a tree after a long day of fishing. He was stunned when half of a decomposed body fell down in front of him, from the tree. A close friend of the dead man said that the deceased man had serious financial problems and had become suicidal.


On 24 September 2007, at 2 PM, Banglamung Police Lieutenant Prasit Lekdee was notified that a man had hung himself from a tree near Banglamung Canal by the side of the Banglamung Temple. A police team, along with Sawang Boriboon Rescue, rushed to the scene to investigate.

There were many fishing boats near the scene, at the canal. Underneath a big tree, almost twenty meters high, there was a large crowd gathered, observing various body parts that had fallen from the decomposed corpse, including the skeleton. The lower part of the corpse was clad in blue jeans. The upper body still hung, by a white nylon rope, from the tree, about eight meters high. The dead man wore a white patterned shirt, but the body was so decomposed that he was hard to identify. He was estimated to have been dead for over a week. The rescue team got the body down with difficulty. They found a wallet with an ID card including a picture, which identified the man as Mr. Dao Rung-rerng (26), from 81 Moo 5, Banglamung, Chonburi.

Mr. Singha Sang-nuam (29), the man who first discovered the body, said that he had gone fishing for the day and came back to the area to relax under a large tree. He detected a foul odor, but assumed it was some sort of fishy smell from a boat. Suddenly, part of the deceased body fell from the tree. Looking up, he saw the upper part of the body still hanging from the tree. He thought there was some sort of ghost or spirit out in broad daylight and ran to the temple to tell a monk and a neighbor about what had happened.

Mr. Isara Sua-meng (28), from Banglamung, a close friend of Mr. Dao, the deceased, came to identify the body. He told officials that, ten days ago, Mr. Dao had come to see him and had a white, nylon rope in his hand. He asked Mr. Dao to have a drink with him and Mr. Dao told him that he had a big row with his wife, was in a lot of debt and was thinking of killing himself. Mr. Isara tried to console Mr. Dao and Mr. Dao left. Later, Mr. Dao’s wife telephoned Mr. Isara and said that her husband had not come home. They searched for him, but there was no trace of him until he was found dead, hanging from the tree.

Officials assume that Mr. Dao hung himself because of his problems and the resulting stress. His wife will be notified when she can have the body so that religious rituals can be performed.

What's astonishing is the body hung for ten days without anyone noticing (or smelling) it.

Seems that there is the smell of death in the air everywhere you go in Thailand, Riding your motorcycle down most roads you smell dead things rotting along the roads, even smell it in some of the villages you go thru, I supposed it was mostly dead dogs, now makes me wonder..

Some friend & neighbour. The guy comes to him with a length of rope in his hands, saying he wants to kill himself & the guy "consoles" him, gives him alcohol (great idea!!!) & lets him leave. Didn't even take the sodding rope off him, never mind stay with him or take him to the hospital or anything. With friends like that, who needs enemies?

As for the body parts falling out of the tree in front of someone - I can't think of anything more nightmarish. Uuuurgh!

What worries me about this country is how an adult sees a dead body and automatically concludes it is a spirit/ghost rather than, er, a dead body.

I see little people everywhere but I'm 6ft 4ins so I just figure them to be Thais. Maybe they are really sprites. Plenty of fairies for sure...

I even get that smell when I log into Ajarn.com these days. Seems there are rotting vegetables everywhere.
