Thailand to host World Ganja Festival 2020

BANGKOK (NNT) - Following the liberalization of cannabis for medical use, marijuana is being seen as a potential cash crop which can benefit Thailand’s economy. The Association of Researchers of Thailand has now joined members of the public and the private sector to organize the World Ganja Festival 2020.

The Association of Researchers of Thailand has signed an agreement with the Thai Nationalism Foundation, the Journalist and Media Association of Thailand and provincial administrative organizations of Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon and Mukdahan to hold the World Ganja Festival 2020 between January 29 and February 2 next year. The venue is on 40 acres of land near Nong Yat Reservoir in Nakhon Phanom province.

Gen. Charan Kullawanit, an honorary adviser to the World Ganja Festival project, said today that the festival is being held for the first time in Thailand, and will serve as a platform for people to exchange their knowledge of cannabis for medical use. The event will also help promote Thailand as a developer of top quality marijuana strains, which will contribute to the country’s economic growth.

"We’re the main host. Thailand’s the main host. We’re deciding who we will invite. The association chairperson said there’ll be Chinese, Japanese and American guests. They once opposed the idea. We’ll invite them so we can listen to their academic ideas, presentations and statements. We’ll see how the event will benefit the global community."

The World Ganja Festival 2020 is divided into three zones, covering academic seminars, technological innovations and business negotiations, as well as local wisdom from each province. The event will also feature a product design competition and music festival.

The event organizers say the World Ganja Festival 2020 will create new opportunities and provide a better understanding of cannabis and its legal aspects.

The herb was used for recreational use, cooking and for medicinal purposes in the region before the Americans came in and forced a ban of it in the region by making it a bargaining chip in trade issues (either you ban it , or we don’t do business together)

with it being legalized in America and Canada, I think it’s a smart move by Thailand to be the first country in the region to get on board the band wagon.

Personally , I can take or leave getting high off the stuff these days, but CBD oil which does not contain THC is really helpful for me dealing with PTSD.

The drug companies that push toxic alternatives must be up in arms at this movement.

From medical marijuana to ganja in less than a year.

What next? World Dope Day in December?

Might be looking forward to the day that Thai ganja policies reflect a truer relaxed freed up recreational use that selected parts of the world enjoy today.
Yet, where Thai laws stand - it is far from that. The stodgy authoritarian and traditional mindset still holds as such applies to opening up a free recreational market use.

I suspect before long, these general policies will modify and change for the better.
Especially, if government and middle mafia types can reason a decent profit in all of this business.

Jeff, I find myself agreeing with you. Dammit man, now I have to green you.

Yes, most governments have already eyed up the sort of tax revenue being generated in the US states that have legalised it, and in Thailand's case, certain individuals have probably already calculated their personal share of it.

It's already been agreed on, with the usual suspects in uniform getting their share of the profits, which was the cause of the delay at the beginning of the year for the medical usage to come out.

Last month the old aunty around the corner who has been growing and using weed for her medicinal concoctions since forever dropped by to show us her official medicinal ganja authorisation card.

We all had a good laugh as we legally shared a bit of her medicine.

pfffft. I had high hopes as well.... Who are we talking about? They already fucked up and will continue to fuck up. It's LOGICAL to open it wide open, but uncle Tu and the others won't do that.
What I have seen is huge shortages and doubling of prices in the local market since the med weed started. My hypothesis is the cops that were selling it to small timers are now selling it to the processors. I can only speak of the north and north east, I have no idea about other areas.

I only monitor the situation, I have never taken part........

Meanwhile in arsebackwards Australia, you can have a joint, on say a Sunday, get tested on a Thursday and if traces are found it's automatic loss of licence for three months.

^^ it's apparently the same in BKK, like in the North the stuff available is well below the standards one used to find in the streets...price haven't go up, but for what it taste and the lack of effect it provides, it's a rip off.
Not sure it's due to medical ganja though as they are supposed to use low THC strains. (IMO for what it worth, they should send what they currently try to sell in the streets to medical companies as I think the THC rate is compliant for medical use).

I think the tax boost may be overstated, operators would try to moonlight part or all of their activities (I think it's widely the case in US and Canada), customers will tend to buy the stuff outside the official tax paying shops to get better prices. Of course authorities would try to bust illegal farms and sellers but is would allow current operators to pursue their activities, police could still ensure protection for a fee...the main benefits would be for customers and tourism sector if they allow recreational use.
