Police search for Tai Yai youth gang members over Iron Bridge murder

Updated at 12:45 p.m. with video (see below).

Police are searching for members of a Tai Yai youth gang who murdered a man on the Iron Bridge in Chang Klan Sunday morning, Sept. 29.

CCTV footage shows up to 15 members of the group, believed to be between the ages of 15 to 20, hanging out on the bridge drinking when the victims, Mr. Komwut Pichawong, 33 years old and Mr. Anupap Aksornsophanaphan, 32, attempted to cross the bridge at around 4 a.m.

The footage shows what appears to be an argument starting although it isn’t clear exactly how it began. The gang then set upon the two men, beating them. Mr. Aksornsophanaphan managed to flee the scene with minor injuries while the deceased, Mr. Pichawong, 33 a new father, ended up on the ground where the gang members stomped on him, beating him into an inch of his life.

Pichawong died later in hospital due to severe injuries including a ruptured liver and spleen.
Chiang Mai Police have images of the youth on the bridge and are seeking their whereabouts to prosecute them to the full extent of the law. It was also noted that the attack has caused concern about safety in the community for both Thais and tourists alike.

The attack was the second involving a Tai Yai youth gang randomly attacking passersby in the Chiang Mai metro area in the space of five days with four men of the “Black Pigeon” gang arrested for an attack on a student in San Sai Luang last week.

Sanook reports that there are various Tai Yai gangs in Chiang Mai who often meet at night to drink and mingle.

Update: 12:45 p.m. – there’s now video. There’s not up to 15 in the gang, possibly slightly under 10.

    Fifteen on two.

Have you ever seen a proper one on one with no weapons when Thais are involved?

Eight arrested over Iron Bridge murder, claim they were provoked

Eight members of a youth gang have been arrested following the murder of a man on the Iron Bridge in Chang Klan Sunday morning, Sept. 28.

The men stomped Mr. Komwut Pichawong, 33 to within an inch of his life with the victim later dying in hospital from a ruptured liver and spleen. Mr. Anupap Aksornsophanaphan, 32, the other victim managed to flee the scene with minor injuries.

The men, all Thai nationals but of various hill tribe backgrounds claim that Mr. Pichawong and Mr. Aksornsophanaphan provoked them, claiming the victims insulted them and that’s why they attacked.

Those arrested ranged between 15 to 20 years of age from various places primarily in the north.

Six of the men were arrested last night, Sept. 30 while the final two men were arrested this morning.

They’ve all been charged with “jointly injuring another person causing death.”

They should be publicly flogged until they are begging for mercy. Every day for a week.

From the video, looks like the 2 Thai victims went (shirtless) to have a go at these feral kids on the bridge. Probably not a good idea at 4am in the morning with a bottle of bravado inside you.
