Fire breaks out at Chatuchak Weekend Market on Sunday evening

The Chatuchak Weekend Market Facebook page reported that the fire started in Soi Project 22 at about 9.20pm. More than 20 shops are reported to have been damaged.

Fire fighters were able to contain the blaze by around 11pm. No injuries have been reported so far.

Authorities are scheduled to inspect the scene and to estimate of the damage on Monday, 3rd June.

Bangkok Governor Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang said this morning that owners of the shops damaged in the fire will be exempted from paying rent for one year. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will repair the shops and shopkeepers will initially receive 10,000 baht in compensation.

B10K won't do much to cover loss of inventory I suspect. Hope the shopkeepers have a decent savings plan.
