BANGKOK, 17 May 2019 (NNT) - After much criticism against the endorsement of Hinokiland, a tourism attraction themed after ancient Japanese village and castle in Chai Prakan district as a must-go cultural attraction due to the lack of Thai culture representation, Chiang Mai Provincial Cultural Office is now set to issue a letter to the Department of Cultural Promotion stressing the disapproval of local people.
Chiang Mai Provincial Cultural Official Sanae Saiyenjai has said regarding this issue, confirming that the office and the provincial cultural assembly did not nominate Hinokiland to the Department of Cultural Promotion for consideration as one of the 10 must-go cultural attraction, while his inquiry with the department revealed the selection was based on the popularity among tourists nationwide.
The provincial cultural office will be sending a letter addressed to the Department of Cultural Promotion director general to express the concerns of local people in Chiang Mai against the selection of Hinokiland as a must-go cultural attraction, as the place itself does not represent the Thai culture.
