Driver Flees Accident Scene After Killing Family of Five on a Motorcycle

HUA HIN – Police are hunting for a driver who fled after a car struck a motorcycle, killing all five family members riding on it, in Hua Sai district late Friday night.

The crash occurred on Khok Pikul-Bang Nop road in tambon Ban Ruam, said Pol Lt Col Chaiyawut Sriwilert, investigation chief at the Hua Sai police station, who was alerted at around 11pm.

Police, hospital staff and rescue workers who rushed to the scene found the wreckage of a Honda Jazz with Trang license plates and a Honda motorcycle at the scene. The driver of the car had fled.

A man and three children were found dead at the scene. A woman who was badly hurt had been rushed to a hospital before police arrived. However, she was pronounced dead shortly later. All five were from the same family, said police.

The victims were identified as Chai Chaiyaphoon, 44, his wife Khwanwipa Disthapan, 28, sons Kittisak, 4, and Theerapong, 6, and daughter Pitchaya, 9.

Officers said Mr Chai was riding the motorycle with his wife and their children riding pillion when the bike was hit by a speeding car.

The force of the crash killed Mr Chai and the three children instantly, they said.

Oh, a good old fashioned fleeing of the scene.

Makes a change from brake failure.

Who says it isn't a farang by the way?

"Police, hospital staff and rescue workers who rushed to the scene"

That gives the culprit several hours probably.

Witnessed my third traffic accident at the local market last Friday. Police never turned up at all. Ambulance took 30+ minutes to arrive. They're 2km up the road. Police 200m away.

Or, more likely 5-up on a bike with no rear light. Car comes along and hits the damn thing without seeing it and ends up with 4 dead and a dying woman on his/her hands. Maybe no licence, maybe had a drink, maybe one of another hundred reasons to bugger off quick. One hopes the car had a licence plate and the owner can be tracked and name who was driving at the time.

Even with a lookout in the passenger seat, I have had a few close encounters with bikes bearing no rear lights at night. Thailand can be a real bugger when it come to night driving.
