Weed Amnesty Proposed by Thai FDA

BANGKOK — Take your stash of marijuana to regulators after medical cannabis is legal and all will be forgiven under an amnesty program proposed Tuesday by the Food and Drug Administration.

Both organizations and individuals would be able to notify the administration of cannabis in their possession within 90 days of the law coming into effect under the proposal, according to the administration’s chief executive.

Tares Krassanairawiwong said officials are drafting the details in anticipation of submitting the proposal on Thursday to the committee overseeing the legalization process.

    Why?
Are they going to get harder on illegal weed and this is a chance to make yourself known as a dealer and forever more have a suspicious eye on you?
Why would anyone hand it in? If feeling scared of the law, why not just burn it in the rubbish heap?
An utterly stupid and useless proposal.

An individual would be able to keep their stash for personal use if they obtain a medical certificate for cannabis treatment.

Rizzla or Zig Zag, in NZ.
Yeah, exactly. The whole amnesty idea is ridiculous.

Or is it just the usual pisspoor khaosod reporting.

Reading between the lines I'm guessing it's the framework for declaring and registering inventory once the law comes into effect.

Stress’ Could be Valid For Prescribing Weed: Thai FDA.

BANGKOK — Stress is among a number of symptoms the Food and Drug Administration is considering for treatment with medical cannabis, the regulator said Wednesday.

Following an amnesty plan announced yesterday for pot smokers, the administration’s chief executive said today that officials are making the final decisions on which diseases and symptoms will be included in guidelines for treatment, and what type of cannabis medications are needed for them.

I take your point, but any stashes in existance at the moment are illegal. Once medicinal weed becomes legalised you can bet your bottom dollar only connected people will get a license and the illegal dealers will still be illegal dealers.
A report months ago said the farming has begun under government supervision, (perhaps health ministry?), but guess which entity owns the land upon which these farms are being planted? Thailand Tobacco Monopoly. A fairly big hint on who will be controlling this lucrative trade.
