Bears most certainly do defecate in the woods, but as there has not been a case of chikungunya virus infection in Thailand since, if I recall correctly 2013, I would rather think this is somewhat important.

At least 85 people are being treated for chikungunya in hospitals in the southern Thailand city of Phuket, according to The Phuket Public Health Office (PPHO), which prompted authorities to set up a task force and a “war room” to get the outbreak under control.

And since it's often misdiagnosed as Dengue, I'd hazard a guess that it's never really gone away.

From what I can remember it usually comes over the border from Malaysia, and they were surprised when it got as far north as Phuket.
