Police to mail home traffic tickets in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 9th May 2018 (NNT) - The Traffic Police Division has revealed that it will mail traffic tickets to the homes of traffic offenders, after recording over 7,000 violations per day in Bangkok.

Fifteen cameras had previously been installed across Bangkok to monitor traffic violations. The cameras are concentrated at on-ramps and underpasses and have since recorded over 7,000 violations per day.

Traffic Police will begin issuing tickets for cases of illegal overtaking. Areas with the most violations include the overpass near the Government Complex on Chaeng Watthana Road, followed by the Lak Si Roundabout overpass, and the Sam Liam Din Daeng overpass. Illegal overtaking comes with a fine of up to 1,000 baht, according to the Land Traffic Act.

Creating a more backed-up bureaucracy already in place.

That should be picked up when you go for the yearly car sticker renewal.

7000 x say average 400baht fine = 2,800,000 baht/day. And that’s from only 15 cameras. Quite an incentive for the police to ensure the fines are paid.

I don't think they are that integrated yet. Perhaps in the future they will be.

    Yes they are

When the cameras first started my wife, the cars owner, got 4 tickets in a few months ,all were paid at the post office ,when she went for the car tax the official was joking with her as being a speedy lady ,he had a record of all the offences --if you ignore them they dont go away

^ Perhaps they have a record of them, but will they refuse to let you tax the vehicle if the speeding tickets are not paid?

Must be a new thing as my many many unpaid fines have never been mentioned when I went to the DLT.

^^ yep I think it's the first year they implement this rule. I don't know if tickets from another province are taken into account as the example I witnessed concerned a local ticket (no helmet on, caught by traffic light camera, in CM)

I don't believe it is implemented but if it is, it could be an interesting experience for me later this year.
