Seems to me that the base ideals of communal cooperatives are compromised when direct involvement by a overlording government ministry is in place.

The point of contradictory being missed, naturally.
The feudal rule continues under the guise of subsidies and management.

Might help if the gov't explore other markets to sell the rubber to.

Speaking of condoms, the Chinese market will not be much help due to condom quality and errr penis size.....

So when richer governments give their rubber producers bigger subsidies, the circle of whinge/handout/whinge will continue.

Really, they can take over a billion dollar industry, just like that, maybe next week they will take over Toyota, Honda an GM in Thailand.

What subsidies would they be Harry, got 20,000 Baht fertilizer grant 3 or 4 years ago, big deal.

Export tax, which is 5 Baht a kilo, which comes in the form of lower rubber gate prices, farmer pays.

This year may break the 3,000 kilos a week output, 3,000 times 5 Baht and I got 20,000 Baht fertilizer sub years age.

Thailand is bleeding the poor small rubber farmers and will kill off the industry in the end, 97 % of rubber plantations are small family run plantations.

but if it doesn't provide a decent income why bother, all over the world people relocate or learn new skills, crops, industries, adapt or fail.

While good for small communities and the environment low investment unskilled primary farmers are being replaced by huge industrial farming with heavy inputs and of course mortgaged to the hilt.

Good Luck James always interesting to read from a real farmer. Round here out neighbours are tappers and I cycle through the lovely shady plantations daily.

What else could you do with your land if unprofitable. rice, another crop, eco tourism or move to another location?

Most of our neighbours have little capital, massive loans for 4x4 etc but they do have lots of land that has tripled in last decade due to local factors a new International Bridge and tourism corridor

Subsidizing a commodity worked for Yingluck. Not.

These are the same clowns who railroaded her for the rice pledge.

I realise you can't see the big picture from your allotment, but the fact is that the rubber price is shit because there is ample supply to meet demand.

Thailand is one of three countries that agreed in November to CUT production to try and get the prices up.

So.... when they Thai government buys 200,000 tons of something they can't sell, what are said Rubber growers then going to do?

Grow more of it, that's what. And then whinge about not being able to sell it for a decent price.

Are you starting to get the idea yet?
