Harry George Buster needs a leg

Harry Harry Harry!! Our friend has been traveling Southeast Asia for the last 5 months. In that time he has been living life, capturing the energy of every moment. Looking forward to the next adventure.

Today on his way to extend his travel visa, Harry was riding a motorcycle near Kanchanaburi in Thailand, obeying the road rules, wearing a helmet and jacket when he was struck by a sugar cane truck turning across his path. The truck dragged him nearly 15 metres, in the process degloving Harry's right leg from above the knee.

He was rushed to the local hospital in a serious condition. Futher scans showed he had a shattered pelvis, multiple double bone breaks to his leg and three broken ribs to go with the degloved leg.

He was rushed into surgery where they were unable to save his leg and amputated above the knee.

Harry is now in the ICU, he is conscience but obviously in a lot of pain. He has a strong will, knows he has lost his leg, but says "at least I am alive".

Unfortunately he did not have travel insurance, his motorcycle was legally registered and therefore had insurance which covers some of the medical bills, but in reality only a VERY small percent.

The truck driver has told police it was not his fault and therefore it will go to court which could take months, if not years.

Now he is not looking for a hand out, he is merely looking for some support, bear in mind that past the medical bills there is going to be a huge journey ahead for him, with the need for a prosthetic leg down the track and learning to walk again.

So your money will help with everything, will show him how much he means to everyone and that there is good in the world.

Please note guys in UK, this is in AUD when I set it up it only had AUD or USA.

With Songkran coming up soon, this is a timely reminder for all those who ride a motorcycle to wear a helmet and drive slowly.

Crowdfunding campaign launched for Dagenham man stranded in Thai hospital after horrific motorbike crash

Those were the words of Julie Cross, whose brother is currently in hospital in Thailand with an amputated leg after being knocked off his motorbike by a lorry earlier this week.

Harry George Buster Cross, 29, who is from Dagenham, was driving his bike near Kanchanaburi on his way to extend his visa when he was dragged 15 metres by a lorry carrying sugar cane.

As well as having to have his leg amputated above the knee because his leg was ‘degloved,’ which is when the skin is town away from the underlying flesh, he has also suffered a shattered pelvis and multiple broken ribs.
Whilst his motorbike was insured, which means some costs are being covered, Harry did not have any travel insurance, meaning he will have to pay the vast majority of the costs himself.

Harry’s family and friends are crowdfunding to help pay for his treatment and safe return to the UK. Over £6,000 has already been donated.

He is conscious and knows he has lost his leg and according to his family has said: “At least I am still alive.”
The family say the driver of the lorry has denied any wrongdoing and the matter will therefore be settled in court.
Harry had been teaching English in Thailand for the past five months and before that was working as a bartender in Covent Garden.

Close friend Ashley Adjei said Harry is a hugely popular person in the community.
“Harry is the life and soul of the party,” he said. “He is a kind gentleman.”
“It is wonderful to see how many people love and care about him.”
Family friend Eve Coombes is also appealing for his safe return and encourages people to donate to the fund.
She said: “Everybody that meets him loves him. He is just a lovely lad.”

With so many best friends, our uninsured unidexter shouldnt need the crowdfunding page then.

    Make travel insurance compulsory.

It will stop many of the reckless wankers from getting in.

Harry is currently wait for confirmation from a specialist surgeon in Bangkok to accept him for his pelvis reconstruction. Harry is in good spirits, dispite being in extreme pain. Today he has been able to have his first drink of water and milk. He is surrounded by family and friends and is so happy and proud of all the support and donations.

Read another article that says his leg will be removed at the hip, as the ball socket won't be strong enough.

nearly $20K of the $30K asked for as of today.

yet another uninsured dreamer passing the hat around when trouble hits.

hard to have sympathy for his financial predicament and i dont know if $30K will be enough for his thai bills, but at least the british taxpayer will be there to help him out once he turns up at heathrow en route to his local hospital back home.

Riding a motorcycle in Thailand is the last thing any sensible person should undertake.

Before the internet, how did people raise funds in a similar situation to this?

Before the internet I don't think people prepared to visit a country on the other side of the world in the same way as they'd 'prepare' for a trip to the off licence down the road.

Nowadays there seems to be a general air of bemusement that countries like Thailand aren't just like Essex.
