BANGKOK, 28 February 2018 (NNT) – During a meeting with the Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council, the Thai government expressed readiness to strengthen security cooperation with Russia in all dimensions.
HE Mr Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council, paid a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha as part of his visit to Thailand, which was selected as his first destination in ASEAN due to its over 120 years of diplomatic relations with Russia.
Prime Minister Prayut, on this occasion, affirmed that Thailand is fully ready to further bilateral security cooperation. He proposed more exchanges of experience and intelligence as well as closer coordination between security agencies of the two countries in a bid to address security issues in an efficient and timely manner.
The premier also asked Russia to import more Thai products and to follow up on the standard verification process for Thai livestock, poultry and seafood factories. He said Thailand is considering purchasing advanced technology products from Russia as well.
During the meeting, Mr Patrushev extended his invitation to Gen Prayut to attend the IX International Meeting of High-Level Officials Responsible for Security Matters, which will be hosted by Russia in Sochi from April 24-26, 2018.
Moreover, the Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council also had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, who thanked Russia for maintaining military ties with Thailand. He insisted that the Thai military will step up its cooperation with Russia while calling for more joint efforts to combat transnational terrorism.
