Lasio (Myanmar) now off-limits for Brits

Due to the bomb last week in Lasion, when 2 bank employees were killed, the UK Foreign Office has now advised Brits not to travel to Lashio.

    https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-ad...y-and-security

This is a (very) slight 'bummer' for me, because my school has a branch in Lashio, and it is a town that I considered as a possible place to work sometime in the future (as a teacher, it's possible to 'rotate' between different school branch locations).

Still, better to stay where I am, rather than be blown to bits in Lashio.

Once the FO advise against travel to a location, one's medical/travel insurance is not valid if you get injured in that region. (And there's nowt more painful than being injured in your Lashio region...)

There were also 3 small bombs in Sittwe (Rakhine State), but I wouldn't be going anywhere near there in the first place.

Update: Shite spelling in the title - should be Lashio

David44, I'm fine in Myanmar. I work in Naypyidaw (heart of the government, army and police). The place is crawling with police and army vehicles every day.

As for working in Thailand, I'd prefer to teach there, but unfortunately the salary that I receive in Thailand is only about one third of what I earn in Myanmar.

I think my employer is paying me a hardship allowance etc, due to the lack of women with loose morals. I am considering importing one of those robot sex dolls.

Are you quite sure of that? The USG puts out travel warnings like this almost weekly. They are nothing more than cover your-ass pieces for the USG. If a citizen gets killed, they can't say they weren't warned. With 30 years of working for the USG, and 40 living abroad, I've never heard of travel advisories being connected in any way to insurance coverage.

If you moved to Lashio you would have a familiar but not necessarily welcome face from Central Park to imbibe with lol.

No response. Guessing you simply made it up, or posted a bullshit rumor as fact.

DK, don't throw your toys out of the pram, just because I didn't reply within 10 minutes.

Yes, it is a well-known fact, and isn't unique to the UK travel advice or UK insurance companies. If your government advises against travel to a particular region, and you go there and have an accident or sudden illness, then your travel insurance or medical insurance USUALLY will not cover you, (regardless of whether or not the travel advice is correct).

If you break your leg in Lashio, forget about claiming on your insurance policy (if you have one). You claim will be refused because you shouldn't be in that dangerous area.

Here is a link to the UK government page - read under 'where you are going'

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/foreign-travel-insurance

Mandy, yep, another reason not to go to Lashio LoL
