SHORT stay hotel seem so apt
We are looking for your help at this very difficult time due to losing our Dad Shaun Walley to a very tragic accident over in Thailand on Thursday 19th October. I wanted to explain our story so we can reach out for your help.
He was over in Thailand visiting friends which he did a lot by staying there on short and long stays in variation so he rented a short stay budget hotel. On the morning of the accident he was cleaning up and held on to the steel balcony handrail. There was a faulty light box sign that had a wire come loose that had made the handrail 'live' with an electric current, and when he grabbed the rail he was electrocuted and killed. The police and the local electric board have confirmed that the hotel are at fault and prosecution is pending. Due to hitting a lot of obstacles with him being in Thailand, us needing to get him repatriated and having to deal with a court case we are at a loss.
Not only are we dealing with his death and that he is still stuck in a foreign country with no family members around him, we also have to come to the realisation that we are looking to prosecute a company for gross negligence that have financial difficulties in a very poor country. They cannot even assist with an urgent repatriation so we can lay him to rest asap. It is looking likely we will not be receiving financial support from the hotel in any way and even after prosecution which will be a long drawn out process, the highest value of compensation will not cover costs.
Why we need your help:
* We need to repatriate my Dad back to the UK (only to London)
* Having his belongings brought back because that isn’t included in the repatriation
* UK funeral fees which include retrieving the body from London and returning back to Stockport
* Solicitors fees which include fighting the hotel in court and a flight for myself to Thailand to represent him
After a lot of telephone calls, waiting around, speaking to the Embassy, Foreign office, Citizen’s advice, friends in Thailand, Thai specialist solicitors, reaching out to the local MP and dealing with funeral parlours….the list goes on…all we are left to do is hope, wish and pray for help! Shaun is not only a husband and a Dad but he is an uncle, granddad, brother and good friend and has left a lot of devastated family members behind who are finding it very difficult that he is no longer with us due to gross negligence.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the support and kind words of family, friends and colleague of us all at this very difficult time, we would not have been able to cope without your help! In addition, we thank anyone able to assist us at this difficult time and I promise with your help I will lay my Dad to rest peaceful on UK soil and fight to get the justice he deserves!
Why can't they ust have a Thai funeral , cremation and post the ashes back.
Unrelated to this tragic death. A truck hit a main electricity pole nearby where I live and pulled down the overhead wires. A massive bang from the transformer and a power out for half a day. When the electic was reconnected I went down to have a look at what happened. The live wires that had been pulled down were still attached to the pole and just lying on the pavement. The electricity repairman just left them there and attached the new wires across connected to these cut wires. I was stunned by such a dangerous repair job. Many locals are also upset and about a week later finally they put up a new set of wires and with the old cut wires they just threw them in the roadside ditch.
Health and safety isn't a priority over here it seems.
^ Yep. I've told my kids that if I croak while in Thailand, burn me here at the cheapest rural wat they can find. Wife's happy with that, of course, not the cheapest bit, but the cremating here.
In fact, it's probably worth doing a budget calculation for transporting a body from NZ to Thailand for cremation and sending the ashes back. Western funerals are expensive.
There's never any offer to pay back from these crowdfunders.
Cheeky cont won't even pay for his own flight
The family are clearly not very bright. They could easily opt for cremation in Thailand with one member in attendance whose primary duties would be to organise the burning then to return with the urn for an internment of the ashes. Return flight, two weeks in a modest hotel and the burning fees wouldn't cost more than, say, £2-3,000 at most - scarcely the cost of a family holiday in Spain. His chum who lives here could sort out most of the detail.
^ Good idea...Offer your help, Seeking...And you'd feel warm all over, heart cockles and all...Just in time for Christmas...
Call me callous but I don't believe a word. This crown funding based on Thailand's electricity, mocy accidents, gang muggings is an easy target. No pictures of the RTP pointing!
Thai ewektwisitee good, no need earth.
Live on Mars...
They seemed to give too many details here, in part to justify and convince the crowdfunders than they are legit. No offence but they types that stay in such places couldn't get it together to sue a hotel.Call me callous but I don't believe a word.
Maybe some fast talking lawyer has given them a very optimistic scenario. The family are clearly not very bright.

Definitely the best and by far the most sensible option.
I am wondering why his "Thai friend" has not suggested this already. Why would they bother to sue a company that appears by their own judgement is incapable of paying the court costs let alone any compensation?
About 3 or 4 years ago a chap named Les whom I worked with in refrigeration for many years in Melbourne passed away in Thailand. His Thai wife had him cremated in Thailand and his ashes were taken back to Australia for a ceremony there.
Wonder how long he's known this friend.I am wondering why his "Thai friend" has not suggested this already
I'd imagine this new friend is hanging about til the crowdfund reaches whatever he's quoted as downppayment for legal action to begin.
Then he'll disappear with some loot.
