Smell from instant noodle leads to death, injuries

A security guard died and three neighbours sustained injuries in a fight which occurred on Friday (Sept 8) following a quarrel over a complaint over an unpleasant smell from boiling instant noodle in a housing estate in Bangkok’s Khannayao district.

The incident occurred at Maneemas Housing Estate in Soi Khubon 6.

Pol Col Sing Singhadet, chief of Khannayao police, identified the killed as Somchai Klinklom, 47, a security guard of a private company, and the wounded as Ms Mantra Monthangern, 48, Suchart Uttra, 50, and Surasee Uttra, 24.

According to Pol Col Sing, the deadly brawl followed a dispute on Sept 7 when a younger brother of Somchai was boiling instant noodle, the smell from it caused the neighbours in a nearby house to complain, saying it was unpleasant. This led to a quarrel and a brawl that caused damage to some property.

On Sept 8, at about noon, when Somchai came back home from work he again exchanged heated words with one of the neighbours. The other neighbours came out and a fight erupted. Somchai was beat up to death, while the three on the other side were injured.

Police were investigating those involved to file charges against them.

Somchai killed with a baseball bat and knife for cooking stinky noodles

One man was killed and three persons were injured on Friday in a fight between neighbours over the smell of boiled instant noodles, police said.

Police said Somchai Klinhom, 47, was stabbed to death at his townhouse in the Maneemart housing estate on Soi Khubon 28 on Khubon Road in Bangkok’s Khan Nayao district at 11.45am. Somchai’s next-door neighbours – two men and a woman – were injured and were rushed to a hospital. Police found a blood-soaked knife, a baseball bat and a wooden stick at the scene.

Police said Somchai and his neighbours often quarrelled. The dispute on Thursday began when Somchai’s younger brother boiled instant noodles, which the neighbours objected to saying they found the smell offensive. The dispute led to the two sides going to the Khan Nayao Police Station for police mediation. On Friday, Somchai again got into a quarrel with his neighbours. This time, he shouted at the mother of his neighbours, which prompting the three to charge into his house and beat him up. He died in front of his house, police said.

Luckily I have tolerant English neighbours, they just seem to accept the smelly smelling shit Mary concocts in the kitchen.

There is no recourse for petty nuisances here, best reason for foreigners to rent not buy.
