Baby dies, pick-up drives wrong way.

CCTV footage from Suphanburi on Tuesday showed a grey pick-up going the wrong way around a bend in the road at Suan Taeng sub-district.

An oncoming black pick-up coming round the corner had no chance and there was a head on collision at considerable speed.

Six people were seriously hurt. A good Samaritan picked up two of the injured and rushed them to a hospital.

A woman posted that one of these - a 6 month old child - was dead by the time they reached the hospital.

The 20 second clip was shared to the "Dome Computer and CCTV" page.

Witness Phataraphon, 24, said he was going to his girlfriend's house.

He passed the area where the accident occurred but saw the pick-up on the wrong side of the road coming towards him. He had to veer suddenly to stop becoming a victim himself.

But within seconds the accident occurred at the bend.

Suphanburi police said that clearly the grey pick-up was in the wrong.

A Thai man was driving and not a Burmese national as was rumored on social media, police confirmed.

They could not say yet whether the man was drunk. They were awaiting blood tests carried out on him at the hospital where he lays injured.

He is likely to face a charge of negligent driving causing death.

I can say, with absolute certainty, that he was a fucking idiot.

Probably trying to save 5 baht worth of petrol by going the wrong way to the nearest intersection. See it all the time.

More like his destination was on this side of the road and the next U-turn was 100 meters away....far too far to go to and turn and come back.

Anyone can have an accident, but until reckless behavior like this is punished with a prison sentence and financial devastation, innocent people will continue to die by the thousands here.

Problem is a few k baht fine is itself often financial devastation and in any case does little to provoke the masses into sensible driving, and if retard turns out to be the breadwinner for a bunch of dependants the judge needs to reconsider packing them off for a suitably long time; difficult balance.

3rd World mentality makes it easier to accept a few k deaths and tens of k serious injuries each year.

the driver of the grey pick up was obviously living in poverty and had no choice but to try and save petrol by taking a short cut whilst rushing to purchase his daily supply of lao khao, tobacco, flat screen televisions and lottery tickets.

the filthy rich driver of the black pick up, probably of chinese descent and involved in corruption, who has been exploiting the poor all his life in order to amass his fortune deserved to be hit and on top of that should be forced to pay massive compensation to the injured parties.

They zoom in halfway through. I bet they weren't wearing their seatbelts. Only 3 months ago it was a national campaign to wear your seatbelt. Now it's all but forgotten. R.I.P

Excellent driving by the lorry driver behind the crash. There could have been a massive pile up if it wasn't for his quick thinking. Well done, lorry driver.

Isn't it strange to see the pick-up driving the wrong way AND on the speed lane....that lead me to think that for some reasons the driver thought he was at the right place, hence driving left.

^ Agreed. It would be interesting to know where the car entered the carriageway. The locals, trying to save some time and money, would be in the bike lane / slow lane.

I recall a junction onto a dual carriageway near Henlow that claimed several victims, in the same manner, before being blocked off.

Not sure why the black pick-up was in the fast lane either. Wrong place at the wrong time....R.I.P. to the little one...

I think the grey pick-up entered via a central reservation U-turning section just outta the picture.

The black pick-up was in the outside lane cuz he was about to use the U-turning section. Just my opinion

    ^ Yes.

They probably meant "in the last 5 seconds it became unavoidable". Which is true.

    Wouldn't change a thing.

They can't process the required forethought to consider that, and would thus carry on regardless.

The mistake of generalising aside, you're right for many of "them" as things are now, they have no thought to consequences.....due to historical lack of enforcement. So if the BIB did start to enforce, they would soon come into line. Bob has a point.
And...don't get me started on Thai education system with it's lack of critical thinking and it's over-emphasis on being "Thai".

From my observations locally the police drive in the same manner. It's the Thai way. How can a policeman uphold the law when he too drives in a reckless selfish manner.

Good that not all Thais are retarded: was recently driving in the sticks on a 2-lane highway after dusk at around 80-90, stationary pickup ahead with no lights positioned to move into my lane from a gap ahead as I moved up to overtake a truck on my inside, no movement from pickup but been here long enough to go full beam, which worked but only till I got closer when it suddenly lurched into my lane giving me a choice of going through it or swerve into truck...which fortunately saw what was happening and wheeled quickly onto the hard shoulder to let me through. I trust Buddha will make sure the retard kills himself before anyone else.

Just to add to the confusion I thought black & white kerb stones meant you could park, yellow and white meant dropping off/ unloading and red & white meant no parking.

If so, why are there black & white kerbstones edging the fast lane of a three lane highway?

Too many confusing signals for a driver that's having a bad hair day.

There are 4 lanes, which leads me to believe the fourth lane is a slip road for U-turning.

    yesterday driving to work.

5am on the railway line bypass (pattaya), pickup loaded with workers coming up the wrong way with no headlights on, I damn near hit the concrete wall swerving to avoid.

This happens often with scooters but rarely with pickups.
