40 motorcycles seized in police round-up of street racers

Police seized 40 motorcycles and apprehended 21 motorcyclists for street racing, most of them under 18-years-old.

Metropolitan Police Bureau 3 commander Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakparl said the 191 and metropolitan police last night (Sept 1) launched an operation to crackdown on street racing after receiving information that a street race would be held on Suwintawong road in Bangkok’s Min Buri district.

According to Pol Maj Gen Surachet, two Facebook users, identified as Watchara Rangfak, 27, and a 18-year-old male youth, posted on their Facebook pages inviting people to join street racing.

Eight checkpoints were set up on Suwintawong road to round up street racers joining the event. A total of 21 motorcyclists were arrested and underwent drug test. Forty motorcycles were seized.

Police also arrested Mr Watchara and the 18-year-old youth for encouraging and supporting street race. Both were detained at Lampakchee police station.

Wouldn't it mean that they are legally classed as minors and are sent home to their mom and step-dad.

20 years old is the age when a Thai becomes legally an adult.

    Thailand.
No person can be held criminally responsible for an offence committed while under the age of seven. A child older than seven but younger than 14 cannot be “punished”, but can be subjected a number of sentences including detention in a school or place of training and instruction. [Penal Code, Sections 73 and 74(1)-(5)]

Wouldn't 18 and 19 year olds be charged as adults and 17 year olds as minors?

Pretty sure that a 19 year old that murders someone isn't classed as minor, and would be surprised if a 17 year old murders someone that they are classed and sentenced as an adult.

You are right but we're talking minor offences here.

Offenders 15 to 18 years old face trial in juvenile court and if found
guilty are handed over to remand homes and training centers where the focus is supposedly on
rehabilitation. Courts determine the duration of their stay. Those over 18 but not yet 20 will be
tried in adult criminal court and if found guilty will normally serve time in prison, but be
segregated from the rest of the population. Moreover, sentences may be significantly reduced or
    suspended at the judge’s discretion.

The significance Prag, i think, is that under 18 year olds are only allowed on motorbikes up to 90cc

Be easier just to wait until the kids race each other to school around 8 am 3 or 4 on a bike racing to get to school first.

The severity of the offense won't alter if the accused is tried as an adult or a minor. It will be based solely on their age.

Those sort of shenanigans only happen in places like Yankerika where they're happy to lock children up for life without parole.

Even if the parents are well intended, what can you do with an out of control teenager?
