A pick-up truck was hit by a train in Pathiu district of Chumphon province on Saturday (Sept 2) while the driver was following a route guided by the global positioning system (GPS).
The pick-up, with a Roi Et-registered licence plate, was hit by train No. 41 (Bangkok-Yala) on a railway crossing between Nong Chorakhe and Khlong Wang Chang villages in Tambon Chongkho of Pathiu district.
Winyoo Namprapa, the driver, said he was driving the pick-up from Nakhon Nayok province to deliver trees to a client at the Chumphon airport.
Since he was not familiar with roads to the airport, he opened the GPS and followed a route guided by the system through a village.
At a railway crossing, which does not have a safety railing, a wheel of the pick-up got stuck on the rail track.
The pick-up was hit by the oncoming train and dragged about 200 metres from the spot. The pick-up was badly damaged.
Mr Winyoo said he was not hurt because he managed to jump off before his pick-up was hit by the train.
