Disabled man and village chief drown saving a dog

A disabled man trying to rescue his dog from drowning in a dike and a village headman trying to save him drowned in fast flowing stream in Sangkha district of Surin province.

The dog, however, was safe after it swam back to shore.

The tragic incident happened at Ban Khamnoi dike in Tambon Khon Taek, Sangkha district on Tuesday (Aug 29).

Witnesses told rescue team that the disabled man, Chaiporn Indee, 44, a resident of Samut Prakan province, jumped into the dike after seeing his dog being swept away by fast-flowing current and was drowning.

But he couldn’t help himself as the current was strong.

Upon seeing the disabled man was drowning, another man who was later known as Prakit Wiwasuk, a village headman, jumped into the water in bid to save Chaiporn.

But he, too, could not resist the strong current. Both were swept away and drowned.

Divers found the body of Chaiporn several hours later, while the body of Prakit was retrieved last night.

Its sad that their story didn't have a happy ending.

On the other hand, we need more stories like this every day showing the good and compassionate side of human beings.

Sad. The disabled guy was probably trying to save his best friend. I suspect he couldn't help the dog by following it downstream.

But dogs generally do not drown through lack of swimming. The only help they need sometimes, is getting out of the water. Like in a swimming pool.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

A bunch of us tried to swim across a river on the Sabah/Kalimantan border the current was stronger in the middle than anticipated, in fact there was a splinter group willing the mean spirited site admin guy to drown. I was younger then but the key is to use the current and not fight it. Just swim towards the shore it will be a lot further down stream than you expect but it will still be there! As the dog found out.

Rest in peace, they must have been decent people to try what they did.
