Don Mueang passengers suffer in four-hour queue

Foreign visitors queue for passport control at Don Mueang airport during a four-hour wait that stretched into Saturday morning. (Photo from the Facebook page of Piyabutr Saengkanokkul)

Understaffed immigration clearance at Don Mueang airport resulted in a wait of more than four hours for hundreds of passengers -- and an online complaint from a Thai man whose foreign wife was among them.

Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, a law lecturer at Thammasat University, shared images of packed queues for passport control at the airport on his Facebook page early Saturday. He said his wife, a foreign national who had arrived from the award-winning Changi airport in Singapore, estimated that around 2,000 passengers were waiting in non-moving queues on Friday night. Two hours later he shared a similar image as the queues showed no sign of shortening.

There just entering the competition with European Airports Thailand moves in to 3rd place.
Actually reminded of the domestic check in area for Air Asia at Don Mueang a few months ago.

It's also happening in Europe, the U.K Media have been reporting on it for days. The cause is simple, it's peak holiday season .

Is there any other country on the planet struggling to process so many hundreds of thousands of tourists coming in?

The only stories I ever read from the 'developed' world are of thousands upon thousands of travellers trying to get out and failing.

Particularly London airports over the last week.

So like a fart or a belch...

    Better out than in?

Best airports in the world 2017, according to Skytrax - Business Insider

Singapore seems the best, but Japan scores well, with the most entries on the top 15 list.

That's because of changes to security procedures, not because the fucking immigration staff are all lazy c u n t s and they're too fucking dumb to use technology properly.

FFS even the Arabs have biometrics now, I can fly into Dubai and enter with my fingerprint and the swipe of a card.

At Heathrow I just scan my passport and look into a camera. They take enough fucking photos at immigration in Thailand, don't they?

It's way beyond these demented chimps.

I flew through there over New Year. Fortunately my mate was in a wheelchair. If you can pull it off, that is a great way to skip immigration queues.

    Indeed...

And that positive suggestion only because they've never had the cause or inclination to upgrade Don Muang some 10 years ago when the talk was to create two major international [and domestic] hubs.......of course, that never materialized. Instead, the attempt to push DM as the principle domestic hub and leave Swampy as the lone international entry, eventually allowing a growing number of domestic connections as well.

Remembering back in the good old days when DM was the the only real int'l entry - and was smallish compared to others, considering the traffic it managed every fucking day. Amazingly, it functioned quite well.

It operated just fine then. But not very well today considering it is the so-called domestic hub.

Certainly needs an overall upgrade and to tweak those apparent issues that are growing and not going away.

The habit of photographing everyone as they enter is becoming a futile measure they can ill afford in terms of time and other resources.

But of course, you cannot tell the Thai anything. Of the 100% photographed about 0.0002% are actually implicated in a crime where identification through immigration records is required. And even then the document they used was probably forged or counterfeit.

It's okay don't worry about the long queues at immigration. They're only looking for illegal migrant workers!

    Not really.
Per usual, Cy missed the base point/reasoning by way of his customary and illogical pedantry.

    Surprised?

    Not at all.

Perhaps one day you'll take the time to explain to the thousands of travellers to and from China, ASEAN and elsewhere (the reason why the airport is clogged...durrr!) that DM is not an international airport and their flights are actually heading to Buriram.

Seems you're obfuscating instead though, so no surprises there.

I for one never expected Teddy Sheringham to ever use the word 'enthralling'.

Robbie Keane has joined the 12th team he always dreamed of playing for as a boy, Atletico de Kolkata. “His enthralling skills with the ball and willingness to take on the opposition without inhibition is an asset for any team,” cooed Kolkata boss Teddy Sheringham.

Nowhere near as nonsensical as any of jeff's stuff though.
