NONTHABURI, 3 August 2017 (NNT) – The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) has coordinated with major goods manufacturers to offer discount prices for Blue Flag products as a way to reduce the costs of living among flood victims, while instructing its officials to look for unusual price hikes.
DIT Director-General Nuntawan Sakuntanaga said the department is helping the flood victims by ensuring the sufficient distribution of goods to affected areas, with a focus on household necessities such as cleaning agents and building materials.
Major retailers and wholesalers are encouraged to hold the special Blue Flag promotions with discount prices for domestic commodities. Promotions are being offered at some shopping malls in Sakon Nakhon province, which was severely hit by floods. The campaign aims to help cut down on living costs among flood victims.
All provincial commerce offices have been instructed to watch out for any unusual price hikes or stockpiling by merchants, who could face up to seven years in jail, or a 140,000-baht fine, or both.
