KARAOKE WAR OVER FEMALE CUSTOMER; SHOP SET ON FIRE
Male staff members, from two karaoke shops, battled over a female customer. One of the shops was set on fire during the night.
On 30 August 2007, at 5:20 AM, Police Major Chaiporn Thong-Na-Pean, a Pattaya Investigator, was notified of a fight between two teenaged gangs. There was a lot of property damage and one establishment was set on fire. The incident took place at Dai-Eji Karaoke, located at 281/1-2, Soi Bua-Khao, Moo 10, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi. Police Colonel Suthin Sabphuang, along with a team of police officers and the Pattaya Fire Department, rushed to the scene.
At the karaoke bar, which was on the ground floor of a two story shop-house, a fire was raging. All the chairs, sofas and other furniture were ablaze. Mrs. Jintana Boon-Anan (45) and her family were trapped in a second floor bedroom and had attempted to jump down to the ground floor. Officials were able to rescue them. The firefighters brought the fire under control after about twenty minutes. Damage was estimated at about 200,000 baht.
Police investigation determined that a gang of male staff members from Dai-Eji Karaoke attacked male staff members from New Boys Karaoke Bar, located at 316/64-65 on the same soi, and caused extensive damage to the bar. Apparently, they were fighting over a woman, who is a widow and regular customer. A gang of about twenty staff members from New Boys Karaoke Bar, armed with clubs, guns and Molotov Cocktails (bottle bombs), went after the staff at Dai-Eji Bar.
The two groups engaged in heavy fighting. The fire broke out when the gang from New Boys Bar threw the Molotov Cocktails into the other shop. At that point, the gangs dispersed. Many local residents were terrorized by the incident. Police will interrogate a large number of witnesses and will follow up by arresting members of the two gangs in short order.
