You can tell by Wilson's posts he really does not have a clue about Thailand, or SEA for that matter.
How else could an itinerant cook live like a king in the countryside with GBP4k in used 20s stuffed under his mattress?Originally Posted by harrybarracuda

That sentence doesn't make any sense, chuky.
I never said I was an expert on Thailand or SEA either! I've been living in Thailand since 2002. So that's 15 years. I know it's not as long as some of you who've been here 40 or so years but it's a pretty long time.
As for the 20K remark. I guess you are right and I am wrong. You can survive on 20K a month living alone but you won't be out partying it up a lot.
Now before I post such untruths again I'll be sure to check out my thoughts and ideas so that you TD posters can get a more accurate picture.
There, that's better aging one
Why don't you :-
Basic survival can be done for very little money , as little as 100 Baht per day , excluding accommodation , in remote villages .
Water a few Baht per day . make a fire from forest wood to cook , plant a few seeds and watch the vegetables grow, sometimes buying food from the market . Eating out once a day having some 10 Baht noodles .
Free coconuts and bananas growing wild
6000 Baht per month is survivable, with 20 000 Baht per month, you could also get drunk every night on the local moon shine
Including accommodation, but excluding health and other insurance plans, visa run expenses & yearly home visits.Originally Posted by Fluke
That kind of budget is for an extended adventure holiday maybe, not for expat living.
Why bother with supermarkets, money, living the rat race, get out of your comfy armchair and trek to the jungle. It has all you need to survive.
You first Fluke.
What's the name of the local moonshine? And do you think they can produce it cheaper than the cheapest alcohol in the world: Lao-Lao, Laos rice whiskey?Originally Posted by Fluke
You really don't know what you're missing, do you Harry? I wouldn't swap life for a free life stay in the Ritz.Originally Posted by harrybarracuda
I always thought them to be Brits and them sitting on the top step of a 7-11. Either way, life with zilch in the village beats that. Even if it means eating insects and drinking rainwater.Originally Posted by harrybarracuda
Nought wrong with either, but I advise to pull the dead rats out of the water tank pronto (- no, not for eating).Originally Posted by Pragmatic
