Oh come on! The majority of Thais earn as little as 10,000 baht a month. They survive OK.
Thais living on a subsistence wage is not "living it up".

Although you have a point that their expectations are pretty low.
He did say "Living up Country, rather than *Living it up in the Country*
    Two very different meanings

He followed that by saying "You can live it up on 20K a month if your <sic> single". Even if it is cheaper out in the sticks, you are hardly going to be "living it up".

I am afraid the keeneaow farang life is not for me; I'd do it if I had to, but I'd be miserable.

You can tell by Wilson's posts he really does not have a clue about Thailand, or SEA for that matter.

How else could an itinerant cook live like a king in the countryside with GBP4k in used 20s stuffed under his mattress?

I never said I was an expert on Thailand or SEA either! I've been living in Thailand since 2002. So that's 15 years. I know it's not as long as some of you who've been here 40 or so years but it's a pretty long time.

As for the 20K remark. I guess you are right and I am wrong. You can survive on 20K a month living alone but you won't be out partying it up a lot.

Now before I post such untruths again I'll be sure to check out my thoughts and ideas so that you TD posters can get a more accurate picture.

    There, that's better aging one
    Why don't you :-

Well he's doing better than Fluke, who doesn't appear to have much of a fucking clue about anything.

Basic survival can be done for very little money , as little as 100 Baht per day , excluding accommodation , in remote villages .
Water a few Baht per day . make a fire from forest wood to cook , plant a few seeds and watch the vegetables grow, sometimes buying food from the market . Eating out once a day having some 10 Baht noodles .
Free coconuts and bananas growing wild
6000 Baht per month is survivable, with 20 000 Baht per month, you could also get drunk every night on the local moon shine

Including accommodation, but excluding health and other insurance plans, visa run expenses & yearly home visits.

That kind of budget is for an extended adventure holiday maybe, not for expat living.

Yes, as I stated, that is for survival, I.E, not dying of starvation

Why bother with supermarkets, money, living the rat race, get out of your comfy armchair and trek to the jungle. It has all you need to survive.

    You first Fluke.

What's the name of the local moonshine? And do you think they can produce it cheaper than the cheapest alcohol in the world: Lao-Lao, Laos rice whiskey?

You forgot feasting on all the free insects and rats you can catch.

Funny that. I sit and look at all the emaciated American retirees patronising the 99bt eat-all-you-want noodle buffets in Pattaya and I don't think I'd need the Ritz to do better than that.

I always thought them to be Brits and them sitting on the top step of a 7-11. Either way, life with zilch in the village beats that. Even if it means eating insects and drinking rainwater.

Granted I'd rather be poor and happy than poor and miserable, if they were the only two choices.

    But fuck being poor.

Nought wrong with either, but I advise to pull the dead rats out of the water tank pronto (- no, not for eating).

To complete the picture there are also many leaves growing by the roadside that are edibles (for Thai people they are vegetables, leaves and stems sound more appropriate to me)
