You are a broken brained itinerant, given to ostentatious displays of attention whoring.
That is all.
No defence offered for the bit about being a broken brained attention whore then?Originally Posted by Fluke

Anyway regardless I can't see how anyone can live comfortably on 20K a month unless they're Jeff & go completely native
The 'go native' part is the key. If I needed a steady supply of Western comfort & food, I'd stay there.Originally Posted by Slick

Thai border officials in crackdown on Western 'begpackers' - cetusnewsOne German traveller claims he was detained in a cockroach-ridden cell at Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport for not carrying £460 in cash, and was denied access to an ATM.
Thai authorities are demanding tourists show them proof that they have enough money before letting them enter the country, according to reports.
While Thailand has long required tourists to arrive with a minimum of 10,000 Baht (£230) per person and 20,000 (£460) Baht per family, it was a rule rarely enforced until now.
Travellers have been taking to online forums saying that airport officials are demanding to see the sums in cash, with one German traveller claiming he was detained in a cockroach-ridden cell for not carrying any, and denied access to an ATM.
It can be done no doubt, but I don't think a lot of people really, in all honesty, want to go that far native, and the people that Ive seen try it are miserable kunts after a while and get trapped.Originally Posted by stroller
I mean, I like to Thai-bash & vent just like anyone - but these are the types that really moan because they are exposed a hell of a lot of Thainess and can't get out.
I wouldn't want to do it, and I've never met a genuinely happy foreigner living on 20k/month.

^ Agree, but happiness is subjective to individuals. In my last few years in Thailand I rarely spent over 25k/month and banked well over half my salary. Accommodation was provided to be fair, so that is an expenditure I didn't have to think about for years. It came in the form of a rather spartan and in parts creaky townhouse. Not ideal, but better than a studio. Didn't live in BKK either so there was little temptation. Fridge full of food, use of a pool and gym and petrol in the bike is enough to keep me happy.
It would have been tougher to be on the traditional TEFL salary in Thailand-no thanks. Saving money is something I obsesses about more and more these days. Getting older I guess. Middle age beckons :-(
The reason why farangs need to show monies.
"Remove these parasites" - Russian "beg-packers" move their con to Chiang Mai
CHIANG MAI: -- The Russian woman and her baby pictured earlier in the week begging on the streets of Bangkok have now seemingly moved their operation to Chiang Mai.
And now a man who is being referred to as her "husband" is joining her in the rip off.
A picture of the Russian woman, her baby and an unidentified Caucasian man were posted on the Facebook page of Cathal O Connell.
The poster referred to the man as the "missing husband" from the story that appeared on Thaivisa earlier in the week.
Apparently the woman had then turned down offers of help from Thais. But here she was in Chiang Mai trying again to sell pictures of her baby, according to the post.
Initial reaction to the story was swift with Pete De Barra screaming:
"Please somebody remove these parasites from the kingdom".
The rest of the post is not suitable for publication.
Steve Thompson yelled "Busted" while another angry poster suggested that violence against the "beg-packers" was called for.
Beg-packing has become an increasingly noticeable phenomenon in Thailand recently with many westerners trying to get money by one means or another often to finance their holidays in Asia.
The issue divides the public though Thaivisa notes that it is fair to say that the majority of Thais and foreigners in the kingdom feel that westerners who can afford to fly to Thailand can also afford to fund their own stay.

I can see the surefooted vision here. Thailand will become a glittering prize, the Monaco of the East (sans Casino). Firmly casting the likes of Tokyo, Singapore, HK, Shanghai aside, it becomes the sole destination of choice for the well heeled traveller- and scungy backpackers can go to Cambo or VN.
Why can't you beg for money? As long as you're not making a noise or blocking the sidewalk seems OK to me. If you have to photograph it on your phone and report it on Facebook shows you are a nosey, irritating busy body with no life, hell bent on grassing up the lower class, vunerable people to gain some sort of fame. I mind my own business, the world is not perfect, if something is pissing me off I just move on and focus on the positive parts of the day. Hurting desperate homeless people is not my idea of a hobby. There's too many of these little Hitler's in Thailand. Let's hope they get some karma.
