Eleven Cambodians, including some children, were arrested by paramilitary rangers on Thursday (July 6) as they tried to sneak back into Cambodian through an unofficial border crossing in Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo province.
The rangers intercepted the Cambodians, most of them undocumented migrant workers, as they were hiding in huge sewerage tubes close to border fence next to Rong Klua market.
One of the migrant workers told the Thai authorities that some of them came from Samut Prakan by a taxi which charged them 1,700 baht per head while the others said they travelled by a passenger van.
When they got off from the vehicles at the car park, they were told to walk to the border fence and hide in the sewerage tubes where they would meet with a Cambodian broker who would bring them back to Cambodia.
They were however intercepted by rangers before being able to sneak across the border and, later on, taken to the immigration officer to be processed before being pushed back home.
