Stoke man arrested in Ibiza for chopping up Thai go-go dancer

British 'body in suitcase killer' arrested in Spain

Officers of the Guardia Civil in Ibiza, Spain, have detained a 46-year-old Briton wanted by Thai police for the grisly murder of a woman in 2014.

Shane Kenneth Looker, 47, was being held by Spanish police who will await extradition papers from Thai authorities, the Euro Weekly News reported early Friday.

He is wanted in connection with the murder and butchery of bar girl Laxami "Pook" Manochat, reportedly his girl friend.

Her dismembered body was discovered stuffed into a suitcase and floating in the Mae Klong River in Kanchanaburi on Nov 13, 2014.

Thai authorities issued an international arrest warrant through Interpol for Mr Looker, after he was identified on CCTV as leaving a bar on Sukhumvit Road on Nov 1.

It was the last time she was seen before her body was discovered.

Stoke man arrested in Ibiza for chopping up Thai go-go dancer

A British man at the centre of a Thai murder probe has been arrested in Ibiza.
Shane Looker, 47, from Stoke-on-Trent, is understood to have been held on the holiday island on an international arrest warrant.
He has been remanded in custody after appearing before a judge in a closed court hearing.
Looker is wanted for questioning by authorities in Thailand over the death of go-go dancer Laxami Manochat.
Her dismembered remains were found stuffed inside a suitcase thrown into a river near the capital Bangkok in November 2014.

Reports at the time said he owned a hotel in Ibiza. He is believed to have been arrested near the town of San Jose in the south-west of the island although the exact location has not yet been revealed.
National police in Bangkok said after Miss Manochat's body was discovered that she and Looker had been captured on CCTV leaving Nana Plaza, an area that attracts hundreds of foreign men every night in search of alcohol and sex.
Looker admitted paying a bar in Bangkok's red-light area to spend time with Miss Manochat soon after being named as a suspect.

He said at the time: 'Yes, I did know her. I'm happy to accept that I spent time with her.
'She is a bar girl that I knew previously and I accept that I paid the bar fine. There is no way in the world that I'd ever hurt any woman let alone kill her.'
The dancer's body was sliced into pieces before being stuffed inside a suitcase and thrown into the Mae Kong River in Kanchanaburi, 70 miles south of the Thai capital Bangkok.
It was found on November 9, 2014, seven days after Looker was last seen with the dead woman.

Looker was captured on CCTV (pictured) leaving Nana Plaza, an area that attracts hundreds of foreign men every night in search of alcohol and sex, with Manochet - but he has never denied being with her
Mr Looker's identity remained a mystery until a tip-off from a Thai blog which gave his full name, nationality and an address in Hua Hin, 90 miles south of Bangkok, along with a photo of his passport.
He had already left by the time police received the information and went to the address with a search warrant.
The shorts and T-shirt he was wearing when he was captured on CCTV with Miss Manochat were found at the property.
According to reports in Thailand, DNA tests on nail clippers and a toothbrush and skin under the dancer's nails also link him as a suspect.

Miss Manochat was reported missing after her mum failed to receive money she regularly sent her mum by Western Union transfer.
A legal firm advising Mr Looker said in February 2015 it had been contacted by the Brit and advised him to hand himself in to police.
Jason Coghlan, PR Director of JaCogLaw, which has offices in Thailand near to Mr Looker's home as well as in Spain, confirmed at the time: 'We have been contacted by Shane Looker in the last few hours.
'He has told me categorically he had absolutely nothing to do with this woman's murder.
'We have advised him he needs to hand himself in to the authorities but his concern and ours as his legal advisors are that that takes place in conditions which don't affect his ability and right to defend himself against these very serious accusations.
'He's not saying he hasn't spent time with this woman.
'But the DNA that's said to have been found doesn't make him guilty of murder and nor does the fact he was with her shortly before she disappeared.
'I know this man personally through common friends and I can assure you he's no psychopath.
'There's an inherent unfairness in trying to defend yourself when you're in a Thai prison and haven't had a chance to get your financial affairs in order and that's something that needs to be addressed.
'Mr Looker is obviously aware that it's far better for him to hand himself in before he's caught.
'If the Thai authorities believe they need to arrest him so they can ascertain whether he played a role in this woman's murder, that's fair enough.
'But if an innocent man is arrested and thrown into prison without any access to money with which to properly defend himself, there is obviously a much higher risk of a miscarriage of justice.'

He could possibly be innocent, however my gut instinct tells me he is guilty.

I don't suppose we will know the truth until Seeking Asylum stops by to deliver his verdict.

In Chitty's post # 2 James Coghlan of JaCogLaw makes a very good point about the difficulty of properly defending oneself from the inside of a Thai prison from a criminal defense standpoint without money. The British person of interest should put his financial affairs in order.
This would be true for anyone who is a suspect in a murder investigation the world over.
The fact that he hadn't turned himself in after more than two years may not bode well in his defense.

I'm not saying he is guilty of her death it's just that the Thai investigators have stopped seeking another suspect or they have further incriminating evidence for Mr Looker to refute.

◇ I know I wouldn't want to be in his shoes at this point in time.

Suspect looks like he has put on a bit of weight in the last couple of years.

I am sure the Thai diet that awaits him will remedy that.

    Did he do it?

DNA will only prove that they spent time together, but there seems to be no evidence that would suggest he murdered her.

I can understand why he opted to go away, instead of clearing his name ... More often than not, nobody gets a fair trial in Thailand, especially foreigners. And the prison conditions, although not as dismal as the situation in PI prisons is still inferior if compared to UK prisons or the States. I just hope he gets a fair trial. The fact that he did a runner will hurt his defense...

As they say, "its better to acquit hundreds of criminals than to misjudge a single innocent person."
I am so unlucky that if I fall into a barrel full of D*ick**s, I'd come out sucking my own thumb!

The quote was, "If it [the glove] doesn't fit , you must acquit."

At least that worked for OJ...once.

I'd imagine that his skin under the finger-nails indicates she tried to fight him off.

^^^ Clearly depends on where his skin was scratched...his face, his arms or his back ?

DNA from skin under the fingernails figures prominantly on the prosecutions behalf if she was choked out (strangled) or beaten.
His two years disappearance however unfortunate gives an appearance of some guilt in the matter in some minds.

Always in the hands of the Thai judges as there aren't any juries.

Extradition is now sought for a British national wanted for brutal murder of his Thai girlfriend

in Breaking News, General | June 10, 2017 | By Thai PBS Reporters

The Royal Thai Police is now in the process of seeking the extradition of a 47-year-old British national after he was arrested by Spanish police in Ibiza as he took his car to be serviced.

Shane Looker from Stoke, England, was wanted in Thailand for the 2014 murder of a Thai girl, Laxami “Pook” Manochot in Tamuang district of Kanchanaburi province.

He was the last person to have been in contact with her after her dismembered body was found in a suitcase thrown into the Mae Klong river in Kanchanaburi.

The Thai police had a video footage from a CCTV capturing Mr Looker and Ms Pook leaving Nana Plaza in the red-light district of Bangkok.

The Thai police later sought cooperation from Interpol to arrest him.

Looker was the last known person to be seen with Pook on November 2, 2014. Police have DNA evidence connecting him to her murder.

Are they sure? How could that have happened then? Did he climb through the morgue window, get all Jimmy Savile on her corpse, and then leg it back to Spain?
