Bangkok cabbie arrested for raping 22-year-old Brazilian model

A taxi driver at Suvarnabhumi international airport was arrested this morning in Suphanburi after he sexually assaulted a Brazilian model and raped her.

The identity of the taxi driver was not yet known as he was being escorted from Suphanburi to Bangkok late today to be questioned by the Royal Thai Police deputy commissioner Pol Gen Srivara Rangsiphramanakul himself as the crime he committed greatly tarnished the reputation of the country which is currently launching campaign to promote tourism.

The Brazilian model was identified only as Ms Gabriel by her Thai friend who was the first to report her disappearance to JS Radio Station yesterday afternoon when she did not arrive at a meeting place on Soi Thonglor off Sukhumvit road.

Her Thai friend said the Brazilian model flew in from Brazil yesterday afternoon and they scheduled to meet each other on Soi Thonglor.

But after hours of meeting, her friend didn’t arrive and she was afraid that something might go wrong. She then asked JS 100 Radio to help locate her, saying she was told that her Brazilian friend called a yellow taxi from the Suvarnabhumi airport.

A samiritan later reported finding a foreign female tourist at a ricefield in Suphanburi province, and she was later sent to Somdet Phra Sangharat hospital for treatment as she was in fear and had bruises indicating she was sexually assaulted.

    Police were later alerted.

Initial questioning of the victim revealed that she called a taxi from Suvarnabhumi international airport to meet a friend on Soi Thonglor.

But after she went into the taxi, she couldn’t contact her friend on Line Chat.

She said the driver drove her off the route to the town but a detour route out to unknown place.

According to police the cabbie drive her on the route to Nakhon Pathom and then to Nakhon Chaisri district.

He later drove her into a ricefield and began to sexually harassed her.

She resisted and was assaulted, and was exhausted.

    The cabbie then raped her.

He then dropped her in the ricefield where a samiritan helped and took her to hospital.

According to JS 100 Radio, one of its members said he became suspicious when he saw a taxi parked near a ricefield where he was about to remove a water pump out after finishing draining water into the field.

The taxi driver looked as if he was waiting for someone.

Later after he moved from the place, the taxi was still acting suspecious there.

A few moment later he noticed a foreign woman walking out of the field in exhausted condition. He then immediately alerted the station and the police.

The woman later turned out tonne the Brazilian model whom her friend has asked the radio station to help locate her.

A check on CCTV cameras at the airport also showed she got into the yellow green taxi with its licenses number clearly shown.

she was told that her Brazilian friend called a yellow taxi from the Suvarnabhumi airport.
And why the fuck would she do that?

Did her friend not advise her that there are taxi ranks where the drivers are all identified, or even the overpriced AOT limos?

Thai "friend" sounds like a bit of a useless fucker.

There is further murkiness to this story, I'm sure.

Brazilian’s taxi rape case sparks industry review

THE GOVERNMENT plans to explore solutions to prevent crimes by taxi drivers who have repeated offences, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan said yesterday.

“For example, we may consider banning them from driving a taxi again for life,” he said.

Prawit added that police should discuss with relevant authorities, including the Transport Ministry how to prevent taxi-related crimes more effectively.

“There is need to convene meetings with relevant taxi operators too,” he said.

The Land Transport Department has fined Thana Siam Taxi Cooperative Bt3,000 for renting one of its vehicles to the man who allegedly raped a Brazilian tourist.

The fine was imposed for failing to submit a driver’s personal details to the department for a criminal background check and for loaning a taxi to a person not licensed to drive public transport.

The taxi’s licence plate number, Thor Yor 4448, has also been cancelled, and the company’s application to increase its fleet has been put on hold for six months from the date of the request.

The department has notified police to additionally charge the suspect, Khamkhuncharoen Khonchaturas, 44, with driving a taxi without the proper licence.

Khamkhuncharoen, formerly named Somkiat, was arrested on Wednesday for driving the tourist from Bangkok to Suphan Buri and allegedly raping her. He is charged with rape and detaining a person against their will.

Police say he committed at least two rapes previously. He served about four years in prison for assaulting a 20-year-old Thai taxi passenger in Pathum Thani on September 24, 2008, and was arrested again for raping a 25-year-old Myanmar passenger in Bangkok on January 9, 2013.

FFS...How about dealing with the problem directly and decisively with a "bullet between the eyes?"...

That would send the "best" message...

Gabriel was quoted as her name. She won a beauty pageant in 2014 and had flown in from KL. She can't be very well known. What incredible bad luck for her to chose a convicted rapist taxi driver to take her to her hotel
