Korean Man Shoots Himself in the Face at Phuket Gun Range

PHUKET – A Korean tourist was seriously injured after he shot himself in the face at Patong Hill Shooting Range Monday night.

The victim, Dong Ok Yun, 42, was rushed to Patong Hospital by rescue workers
“Dong sustained a bullet wound under his chin and is now under doctors’ care,” said Maj Pattapee Srichai of Patong Police told the Phuket Gazette.

The weapon used in the incident was a Smith & Wesson .44. The victim was later transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital.

“According to staff members at the shooting range, the gun was loaded with six bullets. After shooting the first four at the target, he suddenly pointed it at his chin,” said Maj Pattapee.

“The staff member tried to stop him and take possession of the gun, but failed. Dong then fired a shot in the air, before pointing the weapon at the staff member, who ran out,” he added.

Dong then shot himself in the chin.

“At this stage, we have yet to learn the reason behind this. We are waiting to question him when he recovers,” said Maj Pattapee.

Last year, a foreigner was killed after he shot himself in the head at the same range and the year before, a 21-year-old British national turned a gun on himself at Thalang Shooting Range.

Shot himself in the face with a .44 and he lived.

I guess we call this a Darwin award that went side-ways.

I suppose it's easier than jumping off a hotel balcony.

Maybe. This method surely takes some planning & research.

I would wager that someone who goes through with this stunt, would probably eventually find a balcony/overpass/poison etc...

The Tiffany shooting range in Pattaya will not permit singleton customers. Unless you are accompanied by wingman, you don't get to shoot. They got fed up with the almost 6 monthly suicides. Pretty traumatic for the staff and a hassle for the operators having to get the monks in and sorting out ghosts and stuff.

Too true. Last gun range we went to in Pattaya, our designated re-loader had more nervous tics than a ginger step-child. Poor lad must have handed the gun to a few people who then stuck it in their mouths.

One of these days one of these old farts who gets cleaned out by the Thai bird is going to go to one of these places, rent a gun, and take it out on the Thais who work there.

If I was an employee at one of these ranges, I'd be permanently packing.

Well Brits can always copy that English boy at a Trump rally, he ran upto a cop and tried to pull out his revolver from its holster, simple, you can do the same with a Thai cop.

Back in Phnom Penhs more crazy days I saw a Manc do exactly this to a copper he knew - walked up and hugged him and while hugging him he reached down for his gun, grabbed it, stepped back and pointed it at his chest...

Copper looked like his life was flashing before his eyes for a brief moment.

The Mad Manc just held it like that for a few seconds for dramatic effect then laughed, handed the gun back to him and said "You should be more careful with that thing mate, could fall into the wrong hands!"

The copper burst out laughing, put the gun away and patted him on the back, as if to say "Ahh, you got me!:

The Manc scumbag is probably dead by now I imagine.
