BANGKOK, 2 March 2017, (NNT) - The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has advised the public to brace for summer storms and to closely follow officials instructions and weather forecasts.
DDPM Director General Chatchai Phromlert disclosed that thunderstorms often occur in summer from March to May and they could cause damages to properties or construction sites. Unless house roofs are reinforced, they could suffer significant damage from the summer storms during this period.
The public is asked to monitor weather forecasts, strictly follow authorities’ instructions, and inspect the condition of their buildings.
The public is also encouraged to stay indoors during the storms, refrain from using mobile phones and all kinds of electronic devices and avoid being near large trees, billboards, buildings or new constructions which are not structurally sound.
The use of a mobile phone during a thunderstorm could cause the user to be struck by lightning while outdoors.
