DDPM advises people to brace for summer storms

BANGKOK, 2 March 2017, (NNT) - The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has advised the public to brace for summer storms and to closely follow officials instructions and weather forecasts.

DDPM Director General Chatchai Phromlert disclosed that thunderstorms often occur in summer from March to May and they could cause damages to properties or construction sites. Unless house roofs are reinforced, they could suffer significant damage from the summer storms during this period.

The public is asked to monitor weather forecasts, strictly follow authorities’ instructions, and inspect the condition of their buildings.

The public is also encouraged to stay indoors during the storms, refrain from using mobile phones and all kinds of electronic devices and avoid being near large trees, billboards, buildings or new constructions which are not structurally sound.

The use of a mobile phone during a thunderstorm could cause the user to be struck by lightning while outdoors.

Bullshit warning on cell phone use. Landline telephones using overhead cabling is a potential danger but not a fucking mobile phone which ain't connected to anything likely to conduct a bolt.

Certainly the whole of Thailand isn't equally at risk, according to DDPM?

The Department of Disaster Prevention and.....

They could do with this in Khao Tao today after they announced that a young Ruski bird has been missing for over two weeks and they forgot to mention it.

Probably waiting for a new batch of Burmese workers to rock up first...

Yup. Far more chance of them nattering away and falling down a 22 meter deep hole in the road, or tripping over an electrical cable that's strung across the steps of a pedestrian footbridge at ankle height.

Maybe just a general warning of 'Be careful, the place is a deathtrap and we don't give a shit' would be better served.

Weather forecasts, like most other warnings, are useless. Best look at the sky to see if any rain is coming.
