Aussie woman dies in jet-ski crash with partner in Thailand

AN AUSTRALIAN woman has been killed in a jet-ski collision with her partner in waters off the Thai tourist island of Phuket.

Emily Jayne Collie, 20, suffered severe neck and shoulder injuries in the crash near Kata Beach late on Sunday afternoon, Thai media reports.

Ms Collie, reportedly from Kyabram, and her partner, named by The Sun as Tommy, had reportedly both hired jet-skis.

The paper reported that the couple smashed into each other after they were both blinded by strong sun light reflected from the sea on the island’s Kata Beach at 4.45pm local time

Jaysus, I didn't need to read that...I can't see my fooking keyboard, I'll admit...

    That's painful...

And yeah, it happens here in Canada on the lakes more than you'd think...

Gruesome incidents of holiday tourists who just don't know how to use machines in the water...Disemboweled skiers and such...

When my family decides to have "fun on the lake," and I am with them, then I'm in charge and you'd better follow orders...Otherwise, I seriously fear for their lives...I often refused to let my daughter go with her cousins if I wasn't going to be there...

Poor girl in this story...And her bf's life is forever marked...

Seems to me mere mundanity except that it concerns two foolish young people acting impetuously and paying with their lives - " Oh, I can't see a thing but I'll just carry on regardless."

the distraught husband will no doubt receive a nasty surprise when the ski owners accompanied by the police come knocking on his door looking for payment for the damaged jetskis.

i had experience of police insensitivity last week after an acquaintance died in a hotel room in bangkok and requests for payment for the hotel room, the ambulance and for storage of her belongings were made in a most direct manner as they were counting the contents of her wallet, removing her credit cards and pulling the rings off her finger.

a phone call from a drone at the home office in the uk the other day wanted to know where the body was as the police had lost their records and were being spectacularly unhelpful in supplying any information to the british embassy in bangkok.

pity her poor grieving husband when he arrives in bangkok later this week to deal with this.

The queer British ambassador married to his American chink chappie cannot help?

    Quelle fucking surprise.

The British embassy here is a repository for glass hammers and chocolate teapots recruited from the ranks of the minority and freakish classes of British society selected on the basis of their female gender, non anglo/saxon ethnicity or those who manifest a proclivity for fiddling with poofters.

Total bunch of tossers, wastes of space and as effective as farts in the breeze.

    Wankers all.

all the embassy seem willing to do will do is supply a list of coffin makers and crematoria. the rest is up to her insurance company (she had no travel insurance for this trip) and the family. i think repatriation of the body in the requisite steel lined coffin will cost about Ł30,000. a local cremation will be less, but no doubt gougers will be involved. dealings with the mortuary mafia in china last year has shown me just how unbelievably insensitive to the grief of others asians can be once they whiff the stench of bunce.

You have been misled. Mears International are quoting a fee of around Ł3,100 to repatriate a body from Pattaya to the UK. Google is your friend. Although following Brexshit it will no doubt be Ł30,000.

my mistake, i meant Ł3,000, although that would probably double by the time the hospitals and various authorities have added their fees for the autopsy, storage, translation of documents etc. etc.

PHUKET: A 20-year-old Australian woman was killed in a jet-ski collision with her husband at Kata Beach yesterday evening.

The victim, named Emily Collie, suffered severe injuries to her head, neck and shoulders.

“Other beachgoers came to her aid and lifeguards administered CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) while waiting for police and rescue workers to arrive,” said Lt Col Patiwat Yordsuan of Karon Police.

Ms Collie was rushed to Chalong Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her body was then transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

“The couple were staying at a hotel in Karon and had rented two jet-skis to ride together to Kata Beach. After their jet-skis collided, the husband carried his unconscious wife on his own jet-ski, shouting for help,” said Col Patiwat.

“The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined as her husband is in shock, so we cannot ask him much. We expect that they were both riding at high speed and lost control of their jet-skis,” Col Patiwat added.

The victim’s husband suffered minor injuries. The Australian embassy has been informed of Ms Collie's death.

Jet-ski rental operators have remained under public fire for years due to numerous scams, brutish behavior and general safety concerns, but so far, there has been little success in regulating and monitoring their use on Phuket’s beaches.

I expect that at least one of them was riding at high speed and was never in control of their jet ski.

People can be good drivers of motor vehicles, but when they are on the water they turn into complete idiots. Seen it time and time again in New Zealand. It's like they are missing the common sense gene.

Partner 'broken' after fatal jet ski crash

An Australian man whose girlfriend was killed after the couple's jet skis collided in Thailand is "so broken" by her death and says he will "never be able to mend".

Emily Jayne Collie - a 20-year-old from Kyabram in central Victoria - died from head, neck and shoulder injuries after her jet ski collided with one hired by her boyfriend, Tommy Keating, off the coast of Phuket on Sunday.

Mr Keating, 22, said he was blinded by the sun's reflection on the water just before running into Ms Collie.

But Thai police say the heartbroken boyfriend, who said Ms Collie was "the most beautiful girl I've even met. Inside and out", will be charged over the incident.

"Ms Collie's boyfriend, Mr Keating, who was driving the other jet ski when they collided will faces charges of reckless driving causing death," Lt Patiwat Yodkhwan from Karon Police told the Phuket News.

He also said Ms Collie's parents were travelling to Phuket and were expected to arrive on February 8.

The owner of the jet skis would not seek payment for damages
(big of them... ) and insurance coverage entitled Ms Collie's parents to B50,000 ($A1,865) compensation, Lt Patiwat added.

"I love you so much Emily and I wish I could just bring you back into my arms," Mr Keating posted on Facebook.

"I'm so broken and I know I'll never never be able to mend.

"I'll always be your boy and you'll always be my girl!"

The university student was pronounced dead at hospital after lifeguards dragged her from the water and performed CPR for 15 minutes.

Friends of Ms Collie, who went Charles Sturt University, used social media to post tributes.

"Emily Jayne Collie you will forever be loved, hope there's a nice big trampoline up there for you xxxx," one woman wrote.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade travel advisory warns there have been many serious accidents involving jet skis and motorcycles in Thailand.

DFAT is providing consular assistance to Ms Collie's family.

Do folk really think there will be trampolines in the afterlife and that their supposed incarnated bodily form will bear such physical substance as to permit airborne gymnastics dependent upon their mass acting upon a rubberised sheet?

Personally, I would have thought the typical and somewhat puerile conception of 'heaven' by the vapid and stupid would have precluded the need for such devices since their cosmic being would ensure they could just float about in eternal adoration of the Great Creator to celestial choirs and heavenly harps, and there would be no need to bounce about in repetitive and somewhat tedious tumbling motions.

Are trampolines and Bouncy Castles big in the Antipodes?

thailand, being the uncivilised shithole that it is, does not adhere to the principle of precedent and therefore the rulings of thai courts show little consistency. basically it is a lottery.
