Agree with the policing issue. What is the quality of free helmets given with every motorbike sale? Maybe the government could at least have a quality standard for all helmets. Dreaming I know, and I expect no change in law enforcement in my lifetime. Really a sad situation.

If the Helmet is off any value it will have a "stamp" saying so, in Europe & US the following are common:- DOT, ECE 22.05, Snell or BS 6658, off course these standards could be applied here? 555!

I was living in Bangkok when the helmet law first came out, usual total disorganization, initially the law only applied to Bangkok and only on main streets, they were sign posted if a helmet was required.

About two days before the law came into force it was postponed for a year (I think about 1995) as some real smart person realised that there were no crash helmets on the market for the public to buy!

Some high ranking politician was good enough to volunteer to open a factory, which he did! & a year later it was made "compulsory"
    TIT

~20 years later we can all see how successful that law was and how well it is enforced.
To get back to the original post, how long do you reckon it will be before "ambulances" are given right of way!

Yeah. The good old days when only farangs were pulled up for no helmets, despite being in a crowd of equally helmetless natives

Some years back I think there was a law here that said that Thai MC helmets had to be approved by 'Thai Industrial Safety/Standard Institute(?)'.

Not longer after (around 2003(?)) one was able to buy the 'approved' stickers from any MC accessory shop for 15 baht.
