Zip-line suspended after 3 Israelis hurt

A zip line in Chiang Mai’s Mae On district has been shut down pending a police investigation after three Israeli tourists, including a seven-year-old boy, were injured in a mid-air collision at the attraction on Friday.

The initial probe found that the “Flight of the Gibbon” tour was operating without a tourism business licence.

District chief Pattaraporn Laijud yesterday led police and related officials to inspect the facility and its documents.

She informed the business about the suspension of its operations. The results of the investigation will be submitted to the provincial governor.

The Provincial Police Region 5 acting deputy chief, Maj-General Pithaya Sirirak, said police would determine if the incident – in which two adults in their 40s were also seriously injured – was caused by the recklessness of staff.

Err, the Flight of the Gibbon zip-line group has been running for years throughout Thailand and Cambodia. Doubt very much they are operating without a licence - more likely just another piece of piss poor investigatory work and reporting.

The thing is this, many many thousands of times people have done Zip lining, bungee jumps, scuba dived and entered into all sorts of dangerous stuff in this shit house.

A few have died through accidents but it's bound to happen given the usage the activities get and the Thais general don't give a fuk attitude.

I'm sure you are aware of the 4 punters that recently died in Australia at the Queensland theme park. Suppost to have the best Safety in the world.

    Shit happens matey.

I am not sure exactly how it works but if the riders have any control it is a disaster as they would stop to take pictures and cannot get restarted and get walloped from behind. I suspect in this case the 7 year-old did not have enough mass to keep going and... There should be a minimum weight but of course locals are only interested in the minimum charge.

I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Zipline company may be operating in prohibited forest zone

The Forest Department has been asked by Mae On district chief officer to investigate whether a zipline operator in Ban Mae Kampong is operating in 1A watershed area which is prohibited.

Ms Pattharaporn Laijood, Mae On district chief officer, told reporters on Monday that she suspected the zipline operator, Night of the Gibbons, might be operating in the prohibited zone even though it claimed that legally rented the land from four locals who have So Kor 1 land right.

The call for the investigation by forest officials followed an accident last Friday when three Israeli tourists suffered injuries in an accident while riding zipline.

Despite the accident, the zipline operations continue as usual.

It was reported that the Chiang Mai’s tourism and sports office found out that the registration papers of the operator were improper.
