A gunman robs a money delivery van of 5 million baht in cash

A lone robber staged a daring broad-daylight robbery of a bank’s money delivery van and escaped with five million baht in cash.

The holdup occurred in front of an ATM at the PTT petrol station in Song Phinong district of Suphan Buri on Monday.

Quoting eyewitnesses, police said that the robber, brandishing a 9mm handgun, approached three employees of the security company which provides money delivery service after the left the van with a big bag containing five million baht in cash to be put into the ATM.

The robber, aged between 35-40 years and about 170 cm tall, fired three shots into the air from his handgun and forced the three employees to hand him the money bag. Then he sped away in a motorcycle which has no license plate.

Police said that the robber unknowingly dropped his smart phone at the crime scene.

Pol Maj-Gen Sukhon Pornmayon, the Suphan Buri police chief, later arrived at the petrol station. He said the robber could be a man in uniform because he appeared to have experience in handling gun.

Police checked the footages of CCTV system at the petrol station and found the robber wearing a crash helmet covering up his face.

Early one morning I witnessed a couple of bank staff re-filling an ATM. They were accompanied by a guy, well dressed but not in a uniform, who had a side-arm on full display. He was like a professional sheriff: Posture, composure, attitude, he oozed confidence and professionalism. Only an idiot would have tried to rob those bank staff.
Makes me wonder where was the security for this ATM service?

    Is this the cctv footage???
    looks like it.

the employees looked like your average dumbfuck somchais, one was on his phone and the other was lounging around. neither of them paying any attention to their surroundings whilst the third guy rummaged in the bag and pulled out a wad to feed into the atm.

they were as unprofessional as the the thief was professional.

That's a shame, because now they won't be able to ring him to ask him where their share is.

Pulled off too easy, could that bank be self-insured? They could declare any amount looking for a possible very large tax break.

Chon Buri police officer allegedly admits he plotted ATM robbery

A Chon Buri police officer was arrested in Chon Buri’s Ban Boeng district under suspicion of involvement in the robbery of five million baht in cash about to be put into an ATM in Suphan Buri by a money delivery van of Krung Thai Bank on November 21.

The suspect, Pol Lance Corporal Vitoon Petparnkun, chief of an investigative police squad based in Ban Boeng district police station, was subjected to intense interrogation which last several hours since his arrest on Thursday night during which he confessed to the robbery.

Vitoon reportedly admitted that he plotted the holdup which took place in front of the Krung Thai Bank’s ATM located at Song Phi Nong petrol station. He claimed that he did not directly participate in the robbery which was committed by his own brother and the latter’s two colleagues.

Earlier, police found a Samsung cellphone believed to accidentally drop by one of the robbers at the crime scene. With the cellphone, police managed to track down one of the robbers who was found to have been living in the petrol station’s neighbourhood.

Four suspects nabbed and 4.9 million baht recovered from ATM robbery in Suphan Buri

Police have arrested four suspects in the robbery of a money bag meant for an ATM in Suphan Buri and have recovered almost all the 5.1 million baht stolen, according to Pol Maj-Gen Somprasong Yenthuam, commander of Chon Buri provincial police.

The four suspects were identified as Pol L/Cpl Vitoon Petkarnkan, an outstanding police officer attached to Ban Boeng district police, his elder brother, Chaidet Petkarnkan, popcorn seller Somnoek Somsuay and Suchao Jaengdee.

A manhunt is still underway for two more suspects identified only as Toon and Fah who were alleged to be the ones who provided a handgun used in the robbery which took place on November 21 at a PTT petrol station on Bang Lee-Wat Pai Rongwua road in Song Phi Nong district of Suphan Buri.

The gang robbed the money bag containing about 5.1 million baht cash to be put into an ATM at the petrol station by delivery men of Krung Thai Bank.

Police first arrested Pol L/Cpl Vitoon who allegedly admitted that he plotted the robbery in order to help his brother, Chaidet, who was in need of money to clear his debt.

Police said that they had, so far, recovered about 4.9 million baht from the suspects.

Vitoon has been dismissed from police service pending a disciplinary investigation.

Brilliant, can't Thais even leave those God dammed things at home when pulling a robbery? He must have shit his pants knowing he was as good as caught when he realized the thing was missing. I was wondering how a cop could get caught so easily.
