Police hunt British teacher after colleague battered to death on night out boozing

Police hunt British teacher after colleague battered to death on night out boozing in Myanmar

MYANMAR cops are searching for a British teacher after his colleague was found dead following a night of drinking in downtown Yangon.

Local police said the 47-year-old victim, also a British man, was found dead inside his co-worker’s apartment with wounds on his head and chest.

The victim’s wife told officers the pair had been out drinking on Friday night and that she had been unable to reach her husband the following morning.

She contacted authorities on Sunday after reportedly discovering his body inside his 25-year-old colleague’s apartment in Yangon’s downtown riverside district.

“The victim and defendant are school teachers from Horizon International School and they are friends,” a local officer told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The 25 year-old was being sought by police and remained at large, he added.
Violent crimes involving foreigners are rare in Myanmar, a former junta-run country that still has a small though swiftly-growing expatriate community and tourism industry.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: “We are providing help and support to the
family of a British national following a death in Rangoon, Burma, and are in
    touch with the local authorities.”

The international school, a private institution that offers classes from kindergarten to high school, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Burma: British international school teacher murdered in downtown Yangon
    By Asian Correspondent Staff | 7th November 2016 | @ascorrespondent

A BRITISH school teacher was reportedly found dead Sunday morning in an apartment block in the Burmese capital of Yangon, and suspected to have fallen victim to murder by another school teacher, police say.

According to The Voice journal, a Burmese news site, the victim was found dead in the apartment on Sunday morning, but had been out drinking the night before with another international school teacher, who he lived with, on Friday night.

The victim’s body was covered in black and blue bruises, with chest and head wounds.

The victim, 45-year old Harris John Italo Binotti, worked at an international school in Yangon, Myanmar’s commercial capital.

Yangon police from the West Police Station were quoted saying: “The two teachers were drunk on Friday, and came to this apartment. On Saturday, one of them left the country with Thailand Airlines, while the body of the other teacher was found this morning.”

Police added that they are currently communicating with international networks to find the suspect.

Police say soon after the man’s death, a 25-year old colleague left the country.

“We suspect his colleague at the moment because the other teacher has left the country today without informing anyone,” said a police officer in Kyauktada township.

Police said the body was sent to the morgue at Yangon General Hospital for an examination of the wounds.

Harris Binotti, 25, has not been seen since his friend and fellow English teacher, named locally as Gary Ferguson, was found dead

The attack happened in Yangon, Myanmar

A British teacher is being hunted in Myanmar after his colleague was murdered following a boozy night out.

Police in Rangoon are believed to be searching for Harris Binotti in connection with the death of his friend and fellow English teacher, named locally as Gary Ferguson.

The victim, 47, was found by his wife with head and chest wounds after she went to the 25-year-old suspect’s flat when her husband failed to return home.

The two teachers, who worked in an international school in the city of Yangon, went out drinking on Friday.

Police in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, have not been able to trace the younger teacher since the discovery of the body.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "We are providing help and support to the family of a British national following a death in Rangoon, Burma, and are in touch with the local authorities."

I surely hope the young fellow wasn't on Joko's 'Knockin On Heavens Door' vid when he posted awhile back.
