Four men and a woman have been arrested in Thailand after a police officer was shot during a raid which also uncovered a body hidden in a freezer.

Officers found guns, crystal meth, fake passports and the woman's body, which had been separated into pieces, during the raid on a building in Bangkok.



Surachet Hakpan, commander of Thailand's tourist police, said three of the men spoke English but all the suspects' nationalities were still being verified.

The drama unfolded on Friday afternoon, when police attended the four-storey property in the country's capital.

One of the men initially opened the door to officers. However, upon realising it was a raid, he grabbed a gun and reportedly started shooting.

Mr Hakpan said one officer was injured. Local media has said the officer is in a stable condition.

"Tourism police investigated and found out that international criminals were staying at that place and using it to do wrong things," he told reporters in Thailand.

Photos in local media showed British and American passports alongside three handguns seized in the raid.

The female body, which had been bagged and separated into pieces, was discovered inside a large freezer on the first floor, Mr Hakpan said.

"We are checking if she is Thai or foreigner," he added.

Thai newspaper Khaosod reported that the five suspects were said to be a Briton, two Americans and two Burmese.

Police had discovered passports were being forged at the address, the paper said, which led to the raid.

It also reported on the injured officer, saying he had been shot in the chest but was in a stable condition.

The current junta government has vowed to crack down on foreign criminals in Thailand, in an operation immigration police have reportedly named 'Good guys in, bad guys out'.

The body in the freezer was of a dead American. There's an article out there which I now can't find again with good passport photos of the deceased. I knew him from a bar he used to frequent in Bangkok years ago. Already got two e-mails this AM saying "Holy shit! Remember that dude?"

^No. But he was a semi-regular, and I'm quite sure it's him. Don't know that I ever spoke to him.

I recognise the guy in the first photograph, in the black shirt. He's an American who stayed in a serviced apartment block for years in On Nut. Had a daughter I think and appeared to be a decent chap who was the epitome of good manners and correctitude, How bizarre.

^Don't know; I simply can't place him although I know the face. The deceased was a semi-regular at one of the old standby PatPong bars.
