Fair enough, but a light sentence in view of the fact that she knowingly assisted a murderer to evade detection and to dispose of evidence.

Most of these hippy types are soft as shite but the thought of an arrest for a drug offence in a country like Indonesia maybe brought out dreadheads panic, paranoia and inner rage. It looks like he has bought himself a lighter sentence.

You can get what you want in Kerobokan. They have been in for months and are well set up. Just serve the time now..

In hindsight, I suppose a dead cop witness to drug use on the beach saved the perp from a longer sentence for drug possession.

This has no relevance to present day policing in Bali, it was to do with land reforms in Bali the Communists wanted and the traditional caste system being in conflict. Powerful upper caste landlords protected their patch.

It was not the police who did the killing, it was the army who provided logistics for local black shirt youth movements. The army eventually had to restore order after 5% of the population was killed, but it was not police.

The old structures are not as powerful now. I have had stand up blazing confrontations with Army officers in their own headquarters and had them apologise and grovel, unthinkable thirty years ago.

The present day cops are genuinely focused on keeping the tourists and public safe, which transcends all their other worries as they do not want anyone hurt. Perhaps I should elaborate a bit on that, it is in the context of civilians and tourists and the acts of mass murder IN RECENT HISTORY.

As the sun rose over Kuta Beach on the exotic island of Bali, the light bounced off the crystal sea water and the morning beams warmed the white sands. For many, it was a picture-perfect holiday destination but, as the sun came up on 16 August 2016, a body was discovered on the beach.

Wayan Sudarsa, 53, was facedown in the sand with dozens of wounds. He was a Bali police officer and he’d been brutally beaten to death. Nearby were some identification cards – they belonged to an Australian woman. Just what had gone on in paradise?

Sara Connor, 45, was a single mum from Byron Bay, Australia. She had two sons aged 11 and nine, and was dating a British man, David Taylor, known as DJ Nutzo.

David, 34, and Sara had started out as friends, but had grown closer after his marriage broke down. In April 2016, they started dating, but David was struggling with visa problems since divorcing from his wife.

He’d been advised to leave Australia and return on a holiday visa, so David headed to Bali. He’d been there 10 days when Sara flew out to capital city Denpasar’s airport to spend a week in the sun with her dreadlocked toyboy lover, while her children stayed with their father back in Byron Bay.

On August 16, after dropping off Sara’s suitcase at the house they were staying in, they had dinner and headed to the beach with some beers. At one point, Sara left her bag on the sand while they went to the water’s edge for a paddle. When they returned, Sara’s bag was gone. It contained her driver’s licence, identity cards and about £175.

David spotted a man nearby and thought he’d taken it. The man was Bali police officer Wayan, but he denied having anything to do with the missing bag. David didn’t believe him, so started to frisk him – then a fight broke out.

Wayan’s body was found by a security officer in the early hours of the next morning. He had dozens of wounds across his face and upper body where he’d been beaten with fists, a mobile phone, his own binoculars and a beer bottle. An autopsy revealed it would have taken around two hours for him to die of a brain haemorrhage, which could have been stopped if he’d received medical attention.

Meanwhile, Sara’s cards were found near the body, and the police put out a public appeal for her arrest.

The couple had moved on to another area where they’d visited markets and sampled local food. Sara turned on her phone and started to receive messages from worried friends – they told her she was a wanted woman, and that the police officer was dead.

Sara and David burned their clothes, then they went to hand themselves in.

They told police that a fight had broken out between them and Wayan. David claimed Wayan had smirked at him when he questioned him about the missing bag, making him doubt he was actually a police officer. When the fight started, Sara said she’d tried to break it up by sitting on Wayan’s back, but he’d bitten her. When they left, taking Wayan’s identity cards with them, they thought he was unconscious. He was, but because no one discovered him, the officer, who had served for 30 years, died of his injuries.

Sara said they’d thought about going to the police but the taxi driver wouldn’t take them because they were covered in blood.

The couple faced a number of charges including murder and fatal assault in company. They were held in Kerobokan prison, which faces constant allegations of violence and corruption.

At the trial in January this year, Sara claimed she did nothing but try and break up the fight. While David insisted that he was acting in self-defence in ‘fear of his life’.

Sara said that when they discovered the officer was dead, they were ‘desperate’, and burned their clothes in a panic.

David explained that he suspected Wayan might have stolen Sara’s bag because he sniggered at them when they asked for help. ‘I thought, “This man could have done something,” so I searched him, his pocket, under his jacket and in his trouser pocket,’ says David.

When Sara tried to separate the two men, David had continued to beat Wayan with the binoculars around his neck, a mobile phone and a beer bottle that was on the beach.

During the trial, Sara and David were taken back to the beach to re-enact events of that fateful night. It was a spectacle – they wore orange prison clothes which had name labels on. They were watched acting out the attack, as David swung a broken bottle at a police officer who was pretending to be Wayan.

The court questioned how Sara and David had escaped unscathed from a fight in which Wayan sustained over 40 injuries.

At the verdict, David’s long dreadlocks had been cut off and been replaced with a more conservative cut. Both Sara and David were found guilty of ‘assault in company’ – because the victim didn’t die directly from the wounds they inflicted, but because his injuries hadn’t been treated.

Wayan’s grieving widow was disappointed that they weren’t found guilty of murder.

The judges said Sara had sat on the back of the police officer so he couldn’t fight back – not to break up the fight.

In March this year, at Denpasar District Court, a panel of three judges sentenced David to six years in prison. David offered his ‘sincerest, deepest apologies’ to the family of Wayan saying, ‘I never intended to do harm to anyone’.

Later that week, Sara was sentenced to four years. The pair continue to express their love for each other. Sara’s children sent their mum an emotional video message, saying: ‘Mum, we love you, come home soon.’

A romantic break turned into a genuine holiday from hell – with one innocent man dead, and two people behind bars.

^Seems i was right,what a dill,she appeals against a harsh sentence of 4 years for helping DJ Nutso,(that name should of rang alarm bells),kill a copper.
She was lucky in that she only got a extra year instead of 8 years the prosecution demanded.

It was the prosecution that appealed against Connor's light 4 yr sentence, demanding 8 yrs instead.

She decided not to cross-appeal fearing a hefty increase in her sentence.
She was lucky to get only a 1 yr increase to 5 yrs.
Taylor still has to hang in there for 6 yrs.

What's the odds, she'll drop the nutso, she's already blamed him for the murder.
