A 25-year-old Australian man has fallen to his death from a seventh floor hotel room in Bangkok.

Police said Joshua Edward Beath checked into a Bangkok hotel with a Thai woman on Thursday July 28, and the following day his naked body was found on the ground level, with extensive head injuries.

An obituary notice in an Australian newspaper said he "died tragically" as a "result of an accident in Thailand".

"A piece of our family puzzle has been tragically taken and cannot be replaced," the notice said.

"Words cannot describe how Josh touched all our hearts and everybody he met.

"We will miss your cheeky grin and your humorous intellect and huge heart."

Thai police say they found no signs of a struggle in the hotel room but are reviewing CCTV footage as part of their investigation.

Police are also looking for the Thai woman who checked in with Beath she had left by the time police arrived.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family, a spokesperson said.

This is the headline story on ABC news tonight. Bangkok hotel balcony dives do not normally merit the banner headline in Aussieland.

Strange... Seems as though this happened more than a week ago but the The Australian and ABC are both headlining the story tonight.

Here is the story posted a week ago on a Thai site farang-deaths.com :-

A 25-year-old Australian checks in into a four-star hotel with a Thai woman. Less than 24 hours later, his body is found on the ground next to the building. Was it suicide – or was anyone else involved in the death of the young man?

The information was first released by Siamrath, a Thai language online news website. According to the article, Bang Rak Police Station was informed of the death of a foreigner at 7:15 Friday morning. Police denied to name the four-star hotel but said it was located on Surawong Rd in Bangkok’s Si Phraya district.

Police officers from Bang Rak along with investigator Pol Maj Satid Soncha made their way to the place of the incident. On the concrete of a narrow aisle next to the 17 floors high hotel building, they found the lifeless body of Joshua Edward Beath, aged 25.

Siamrath wrote Mr Beath was an Austrian citizen. However, considering his name and the fact that an obituary was published in the Australian paper Herald Sun makes it safe to assume that Mr Beath was actually from Australia.

Mr Beath was not wearing any clothes, Pol Maj Satid said. He was lying on his back in a pool of blood. An emergency doctor from General Police Hospital stated that the young man had sustained severe injuries to his head which eventually might have caused the death.

Pol Maj Satid inspected room no. 758 on the 7th floor of the hotel where the deceased had stayed. There were no signs of a fight or other circumstances that might indicate Mr Beath was the victim of a crime, he said.

A maid on her way to work had found the already dead man and immediately called the police. According to hotel personnel, Mr Beath had checked in only one day earlier at around noon. With him was a Thai woman who was not present when police arrived.

Police have opened an investigation to find out what really happened that night. For that, they will inspect related CCTV footage and question the Thai woman who might have been the last person that saw Mr Beath alive.

In the obituary published in the Herald Sun days after the death, it is being said that his death was a “result of accident”.

His face is not visible so you cannot say he is on his back. I suspect that he had wonky legs and these contributed to his sad demise.

Look at his right hand. He's face down. Thai police couldn't even get that right. Did they attend?

How long have you been seeing imaginary hands ? That white thing towards the right top corner is not a hand.

As he was naked, maybe they turned him over, face down...

I find it strange so many people, allegedly jump off a building.
Maybe, they are set up and robbed, or can't, won't pay up ..then thrown over the balcony..as the usual assumption is suicide...
Why would you come to Thailand just to do this, normally people have some family around..or friends..just does not add up.........

I am totally serious. That is not a hand. I think that you should halt your forensic examinations for a while. I do not know what said item is but it is not a hand. It looks more like a piece of rubbish/garbage.

I have downloaded the pic and magnified it. The white object looks like a glove puppet. The police attended and the most convincing evidence of their attendance is the word police on one of the uniforms.

Why are they using a tape measure ?

    His hand?
you can tell he is face down from his foot
    ...

Look at the state of the floor , covered in patches of something. which gives a clue about the maintenance state of the rest of the place
    .

As usual they don't show the balcony, to see how high, or low, the railing was,
how unsuitable the tiles were ,if there was slippery slime on them . an air-conditioned unit dripping water etc

No, just she a bunch of people gawping at the body

Why does the Thai woman always flee?
We never hear later that she's been caught and arrested on suspicion

Most Thai hotels..when a Thai is accompanied by a Westerner, will have to produce their Thai ID card and they document the number..
