TRANG - The father of an 8-year-old girl who was raped and subsequently died had admitted having abused her while high on drugs, before he attempted to take his own life in a police cell on Tuesday morning, police said.

The man, 33, was being held in the Muang police station cells after being detained on suspicion of involvement in the crime.

Pol Lt Gen Veerapong Chuenpakdi, chief of Police Region 9, told a media briefing called around noon that the man initially denied raping his daughter. After intense interrogation, he finally confessed he raped the girl.....

Obviously I've got no idea who did it and obviously whoever did it should be be punished to the maximum extent but this "intense interrogation" crap means that we will never know for sure who was guilty.

Father retracts confession

A Trang man suspected of raping his eight-year-old daughter who later died has retracted his confession after an unsuccessful suicide attempt.

The 33-year-old man who is a native of tambon Nong Trud in Muang Trang district changed his mind about his confession when police interrogated him further. Police also sought his extended detention with the court of Trang province on Wednesday.

The man, whose name is being withheld, said he had confessed because of heavy pressure......

Trang's senior police officer has rejected criticism over the handling of the rape and death of an eight-year-old girl, saying correct procedures were followed in the detention of two male suspects.

Pol Maj Gen Daoloy Muandet was responding to claims by the girlfriend of the first suspect detained that police had forced a confession out of him after the child was drugged and raped and subsequently died in an incident that has horrified the nation.

TRANG - Police in the southern province charged a 33-year-old father with drugging and raping his eight-year-old daughter who later died in May and released a 20-year-old neighbour whom the girl's mother had earlier fingered.

Pol Maj Gen Daoloy Mueandet, chief of Trang police, said on Monday that based on forensic evidence, police charged Kittisak Thongyoi, 33, with raping and assaulting his eight-year-old daughter and released Saranrat Soosan, 20, due to lack of evidence.

He referred to the fatal drug-facilitated rape of the girl in tambon Nong Trud of Muang Trang district on May 10.

Her mother Salisa Ritthidet, 31, first accused the young neighbour of drugging her daughter with a drink and later raping her while she and her husband were tapping latex, leaving three children at home. The mother earlier claimed her daughter had told her who the attacker was before dying of internal bleeding.

The neighbour was arrested on May 12 and brought to a police's news conference. He was detained for over a month before being temporarily released by a court order last Friday.

The girl's father was arrested on May 23 and police said he admitted to abusing his daughter during interrogation. The following day he was found hanging in his cell, but was rescued. On May 25, the man retracted his confession, claiming he was coerced.

The Trang provincial court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 21 years and eight months in prison after finding him guilty of raping his own eight-year old daughter and force-feeding her with soft drink laced mixed with methamphetamine.

The victim died of drug overdose after her father, Kittisak Thongyoi, forced her to drink soft drink mixed with the illicit drug.

The incident took place at their house in Trang province. Seven suspects were detained, but DNA tests confirmed Kittisak as the only culprit.

Well, there we have it, a Thai man who raped his 8 year old daughter to death whilst high on drugs and tried to shift blame upon an innocent gets 21 years, Lance Whitmore a Brit who was caught with 200 'E' tabs in Pattaya gets 50 years.

It really is a pitiful little country devoid of any virtue.

The good thing is he will probably be financially destitute so hopefully his time in prison is one of purgatory until he is finally murdered.
