Three arrested for savage Hua Hin attack on elderly Brits
PRACHAUP KHIRI KHAN - Three men have been arrested for a savage attack on an elderly British family holidaying in Hua Hin over the Songkran holiday after a video of the incident went viral on the internet.
The video, captured by overhead security cameras and posted this week on social media, sparked shock and outrage over its brutality and the ages of the elder victims: a 65-year-old woman and 68-year-old man from Scotland.
"We have arrested three of the four suspects and have issued an arrest warrant for the other one who is still on the loose," said Pol Col Chaiyakorn Sriladecho, chief of Hua Hin police.
"The men say they are sorry and that they wouldn't have done this if they weren't drunk," he added.
The three men were named as Suphatra Baithong, Yingyai Saengkham-in, both aged 32, and Siwa Noksri, 20.
In the clip, the family is seen walking down a crowded street in the beach town of Hua Hin on the evening of April 13, amid festivities for the Thai New Year.
An altercation breaks out with a group of men on the street who punch all three in the face, kick their bodies and stomp on their faces in an attack that lasts about two minutes.
The attack stops only when all three victims are seen lying apparently unconscious on the ground. As the gang disappears, bystanders come to their aid.
Pol Col Chaiyakorn said the attack started after "the son accidentally bumped into one of the Thai men".
The 43-year-old son and his father suffered head injuries requiring stitches, he said. The mother was more severely injured, suffering a build-up of fluid in the brain that was removed, he said.
"The hospital is still holding her for observation for serious head and eye injuries," said Pol Col Chaiyakorn.
The incident just made the headlines in Thailand after the British media, namely The Telegraph, Daily Mail and Mirror, reported it on Wednesday.
The attack is just the latest brutal assault on foreign tourists, which contribute to 10% of the country's gross domestic product.
In March, four French tourists were assaulted on the island of Koh Kut as they walked to dinner. Among them were a mother and daughter who were both raped.
Two British backpackers were murdered on Koh Tao in 2014. Autopsies showed the couple, a young man and woman, had been severely beaten and the woman raped. Two Myanmar migrants were convicted of the crime based on DNA evidence that rights groups say was questionable.

Big Ol' Lucky Ol' Al.
An account from the man who tried to help the tourists, this is not the Thai witness!
Last night the Songkran water festivities kicked off in big style around town..the largest concentration of revellers was around the Binta-block square of bars with thousands of Thais flocking in to enjoy to loud dance music, water, paste and the general feel-good atmosphere..BUT:-
By the end of the night (around 2.am) as the bar's customers were leaving, gangs of Thai youths were priming themselves to start punching Westerners..!
Small groups were scatterred at various places..all with the intention of attacking Tourists.
(At this point I may add that a friend & his Thai lady was walking thru' the streets back to their car..neither had been drinking..it was HER that ushered him along after she'd heard these youths planning to attack their next victims that were approaching).
The girls in the bar I was in all night waved goodbye to 2 elderly customers & their son, & my wife & I followed only seconds after them.
Within 20/30 meters of leaving the bar the Thais were punching the 65yr old lady in the face!! The elderly gentleman was down on the floor, & their son was beaten very badly..!!!
At this point I caught up to the scene and pushed one of the youths away from the woman...I got severly punched & kicked for my troubles, but felt the need to protect this frail lady.
The 3 of them are still hospitalised, & I will need cosmetic dental work done, but the message I'm trying to say here is
PLEASE BE ON YOUR GUARD IF VENTURING THRU' THE BAR AREA LATE THIS EVENING..THESE THUGS MAY
RETURN TONIGHT!
Not one person (other than myself) came to aid these old folk, & they ended up laid in the road bleeding..so if you're
still out in the wee hours tonight please be alert. These pockets of youths were intent on causing harm, & did blend in with all others beforehand.
because... they are not the hiso boy who will never be arrrested,Originally Posted by Passing Through
Somewhat typically, the bystanders witnessing this brutal attack all did what come comes naturally to the average Thai in such circumstances i.e. sweet damn all.
If it is outside their own weird little social rules of engagement denoted by face, self-interest, arse - licking and craven compliance, the chickenhead generally assumes a gormless stance and is frozen into mute imbecility.
Essentially, cows are more dynamic.
Found another disturbing story from the same night about a young female tourist being raped, no link but a FB thread.

Youre' Soo Write!Hear Hear! They belive the Faralang comes here because it's Utopia! But reality is it's a Hell Hole! Contradicting there feble minds!
This is shocking, even if there was an argument prior to the beating, there's no way to justify it. Hitting old people, elderly women ? No way ! Even by thai standard it's a no-no.
The first guy was already arguing with a thai at the beginning of the video, what was it about? Bill issues? Theft aptempt? Can't imagine it was for groping ...or just "you push me no it was you first" drunken argument, or thai guys looking for a "fight" (I put comma here as who on earth would consider targetting 60+ people to pick a fight?)... Then this guy is pushed and stumble to the ground, and the others Farangs step in and the argument escalate, will I think slapping a thai is not a good move, there's no way it could justify such an ordeal
Yes I agree with others a 500 baht or so fine will teach them (not). What about medical expenses and damages? If the tourists are still here for the "investigation" and/or willing to come back a few times for the court as the trial might be delayed for petty reasons (like "the defendant is not in the mood to go to the court", "the defendant is unavailable doing some voluntary works helping the dogs, orphans etc" ...). That's why these kind of guys are counting on when they decide to go after some farangs ...

But your anger is strangely vented, as well, thegent...Ya just never know how a person will react once the sausages start flying...
And yeah, Ronaldo, the girl in red got trashed for trying to help...They'll probably follow up on her later...
Seriously, the Thais have more reason to stay out of it than we do...
Are you still suffering from your stroke?
Oh, well that's alright then, we can just forget all about it."The men say they are sorry and that they wouldn't have done this if they weren't drunk," he added.
Well, they do have to place responsibility somewhere. Chickenheads can't accept responsibility for anything adverse and the demon drink is always a default mitigation. I suppose they could hardly say they wouldn't have done it if they weren't retarded bags of shite with all the intellectual acuity and grace of a pile of dog turds, could they?
When she gets oot the hospital she's gonna kill that wee coont...
As bad as this attack was, we shouldn't lump all Thai males together in a pile of poo and light them on fire... (as tempting as it is)... don't forget, they are thugs, regardless of race...
Just like bogan gangs in NZ (head hunters/black power)...
They don't represent the majority of Thai males.. think of them as a sub-species..
Hey, just had a thought pop into my blonde head... any of you guys have any strong friendships with Thai males? I don't mean in a sexual way - no wing-men please lol
I mean, Thai male friends that would stand up for you in a fight - even against other Thai males...
You start first, NZ...
Is this any different than Paki bashing that used to go on in UK. Or say Vietnamese bashing that used to go on in Aus.
All wrong on so many counts but not unique to Thailand or anywhere else.
The first Englishman to hit the floor went down fast than Jurgen Klinsman in a penalty area. Looks like he was being tickled, and down he went, holding his bonce
Heh...Stay away from the "stroke zone," old bean...Ya might "absorb" a little collateral damage...Originally Posted by Seekingasylum
They have the fourth suspect. The case is going to court on 3rd May so that the victims can testify.
Hmmm to be honest, in my 10 odd years there, I never formed a close friendship with a Thai male. I had drinking buddies, pals, but no one really close.Originally Posted by BaitongBoy

Funny though, never seem to remember any of my Western mates having close friendships with Thai males either. Normally, they would only hang around when they wanted to borrow my mates motorcy, or invite themselves along to our clubbing nights, etc..
You got any good Thai mates, BB?
who was that feller who always spoke so fondly of his 'wingman'? 55
Interesting that in a thread which has, with clockwork precision, descended into the usual Thai-men-are-all-violent-subhumans, you measure the quality of a friendship by means of how violent somebody would be on your behalf.any of you guys have any strong friendships with Thai males? I don't mean in a sexual way - no wing-men please lol I mean, Thai male friends that would stand up for you in a fight - even against other Thai males...

It was just an indication of loyalty... wouldn't you help your mates in trouble PT?
Even more interesting, and with the usual clockwork precision reflective of these types of threads, is how the same violent hatred and general stereotypes towards Thai males is cast broadly by the nasty actions of a few.
Rather predictable. Thais, Indians, Chinese, Arabs, Japanese, Africans, etc...
Same same.
....and never find such in their beloved and benevolent Western [especially English-speaking] character.
