Motorbikers to stage a “show of force” against traffic ban

Motorcyclists in Bangkok and its peripherals will stage a “show of force” on Tuesday to protest against the recent police order banning them from using 39 bridges and six tunnels in Bangkok.

The “show of force” against the traffic ban was declared and widely shared in the Facebook pages and Line application by motorists angered by the police order.

The protesting motorcyclists will all tie a piece of black cloth on the left mirror or left handle of their bikes and ride on the left traffic lane. This is intended to show that how the traffic during the rush hours will be affected if the bikers follow the ban.

whoever made this new law is an utter utter kunt.

Bikes have always been banned from bridges and tunnels anyway. It's time to repeal the ridiculous law that penalises riders who use much less space and resources than car drivers - not fucking reinforce it.

The only reason they have this law is so the bent police can get their 100bt fines.

Prayuth would score big if he sacked off the entire bkk traffic police force and replace the entire lot with a single fucking traffic cone, placed somewhere out in minburi.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

And after that, you can go down the pub.

...and ride on the left traffic lane...
Any chance buses and trucks could also be banned so they show their "force" by doing this as well?

Bangkok must be the only city in the world, where actually removing the police would make the city safer and much less congested.

    Typical Thai journalism.

No mention of where the bridges and tunnels are!

Quite amusing really just how exercised some posters get over chickenheads squabbling among themselves in their ghastly snake pit of a society. I should imagine it's on a par with getting upset over feeding time at Dusit Zoo.

The hiso kunts in their Mercedes and Land Rovers don't like getting passed by Honda Waves.
This is pure social class bull shit that has nothing to do with safety or traffic flow.

Police suspend bridge/tunnel ban for bikers

The Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) on Monday announced it will temporarily cease enforcing a ban on motorcycles using Bangkok’s flyovers and tunnels until talks with opponents of the measure are concluded.

The ban starts on Aug 1.

Transport permanent-secretary Chartchai Tipsunave said Monday the panel working on traffic problems in Bangkok and its outskirts had agreed not to allow motorcycle riders to use the Bhumibol Bridge which connects southern Bangkok to Samut Prakan.

He was speaking Monday after a meeting aimed at finding solutions to reduce traffic congestion in the city and its outskirts.

The northern bridge or the Bhumibol 1 Bridge connects Yannawa district of Bangkok to Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan. The southern bridge or Bhumibol 2 Bridge links tambon Songkanong to tambon Bang Ya Plak in Phra Pradaeng district.

Mr Chartchai said the two bridges have steep inclines, putting motorcycle riders at risk of accidents.

Strong winds would hinder riders’ ability to....

I though that this was part of the road traffic law already.

So instead of banning them, they were saying that the law will be enforced.

Bit of a hissy fit protest by the monkeys - oh, okay then, we won't enforce it for another month or so, by which time it will be forgotten about.

Considering that 70 to 80% of road deaths in this country involve motorcycles restricting them as much as possible seems a good idea.

It remains to be seen how much of a 'show of force' they can put on against a bus or big truck.

    Nope. It's an unemployment solution.

There are ferry services available at two piers, he said adding it would take about 5-6 minutes for a round trip and the fare is only 10 baht for each trip.
5-6 minutes! He has obviously never done it. As far as I know there is one. At Bang Na. Nowhere near Rama 3. Eejit!
However, Pol Maj Gen Adul said a survey of more than 2,000 motorists in Bangkok was recently conducted and most of the respondents agreed bikers should not be allowed to ride on the flyovers and in tunnels
And what did the 2000 motorcyclists say?

Still the process is going in the right direction at least they listened for a while to input from the public.
The move came after members of a motorcycle club submitted a letter to the Transport Ministry, asking it to allow them to continue using Bhumibol 1 and 2 Bridges to cross the Chao Phraya River.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Throwing car drivers who recklessly cause injuries to motorcycle riders in prison would work better.
Anyone can have an accident, but reckless driving, where the outcome of the bhevaior is predictable in advance is enough to get you prison or bankruptcy in most other countries.
