A kind-hearted beggar who once donated over 1 million baht to a temple is now out

An elderly beggar who earlier donated more than one million baht of his savings from begging to Wat Rai Khing has been expelled from the temple where he took refuge for several decades.

The beggar, Mr Iam Kampeeranont or Uncle Iam, is now living alone at a small room in front of the temple in Nakhon Pathom province thanks to the support of the social development and human security office.

An official of the office said that the office has not abandoned Uncle Iam but he is now having difficulty to make a living because he is sick and can hardly help himself.

The official who declined to be named admitted that he didn’t know why Uncle Iam was expelled from the temple.

However, another official said that Uncle Iam was removed from the temple because of the government’s new policy banning begging on temple grounds.

Beggars belief, Monks beg for breakfast every morning, begging is just part of Temple life.
If your begging days are over, then it's time to retire, and for others to take care of you and take over your begging business.

This guy also paid for concerts at the Wat, Takkedan Cholada concert was paid for by him, people used to go there just to give him money. That Wat is more like a theme park, they rake it in so maybe they don't need his money, or him. Soi dogs are ok though! Begging on temple grounds is a laugh, that's what the monks do.

...donated more than one million baht of his savings from begging to Wat Rai King...
That was a total waste, wasn't it? Like Coca Cola handing over its profit to Pepsi, yes.

Sadly, as it's become political - not a testament of it's real self.

    Sad story.. poor guy.

Heartless cnuts are heartless cnuts (irrespective of religion IMHO)

Unfortunately, some temples (and churches, etc) are just fronts, for greedy business people, sucking money from vulnerable/naive people

Should've had a legal writ of guarantee extended with his charitable donation.

Full refund it treated like a piece of shit.

If you ever get to Rome visit the Vatican Museum. The wealth on display will put you off religion for life.

I was put off religion by being forced by my devout Christian grandparents (God bless them) to attend Sunday school.

That being said, I do appreciate the basic morals and principals they instilled in us kids. Now the world has changed, Science is on the threshold of proving that everything in the universe was created naturally, without the intervention of supernatural powers.
