Stacks of cash, suicide note with instructions found next to body of American, 26, in Phuket hotel

PHUKET: Police have little reason to suspect foul play in an apparent suicide of a 26-year-old American found in a Patong hotel room yesterday (March 5) alongside three stacks of cash including 615 Euros and about B32,800, with an apparent suicide note containing instructions of what to do with the money

The victim, identified by a passport found in the room, was named as Mr Nathan House, 26, of the US.

An apparent suicide note found in the room contained clear instructions for how to use the cash, one of the biggest portions asked to be given to "police and/or hospital to cover the cost of their investigation (if any)".

Though it seems like a clear cut case of suicide, The Phuket News highlights two oddities that should be noted in the investigation, if any, as follows:

The note was signed by the same name listed in the passport but oddly the date was signed of 4/3/16 (March 4, 2016), which is not the typical way most Americans are trained to sign letters, who typically sign the number of the month before the day, i.e. 3/4/16.

The second oddity is that he left 615 Euros (about B24, 000) for the purpose of cremating his body (see image), and it is not immediately clear of why an American would be carrying that much Euros in Thailand.

Nonetheless, authorities are in the process of confirming the cause of death and notifying the embassy.

    RIP.

    Very tidy.

May have lived in UK/Europe for a while, would account for his day/month/yr referencing, and the Euros.

I think his decison to self terminate was a wise one - tedious bores are actually quite dangerous in that their grotesque self absorption can drive ordinary folk beyond reason with their obsessions.
Weren't those " Lord " comments from the religious nuts on his web- bore really creepy? American religious zealots are the pits.

    He wasn't one, apparently.

A declining quality of life, was his criterion, and usually is the case in suicides.

Wait 'til you reach that (inevitable) point, as we all do, it mightn't be too far away, either, if you're ageing and becoming incapacitated.

Then, sweet release may be by far the better choice

He was 26 and healthy. He didn't have a declining quality of life. We all have ups and downs in life.
Reminds me of that guy who wandered into the Alaskan bush and starved to death in a bus.
    Inconsiderate asshole.

It appears that almost half his short life was spent in some form of pain or negative influence,....I really don't envy the guy,...I fully empathize with him and his wish for euthanasia.

Turning to others for help etc is often a fruitless choice......

I feel sorry for the poor lad. I can't imagine how unbearable chronic, acute tinnitus would be.

You only have to google "tinnitus suicide" to see how many people it's driven to end their lives.

Tinnitus can drive ya insane, depending on its intensity,....horrible, half or more of yer life herting that screaming ringing noise different volumes and intensities,.....until ya learn to switch off?

A bang across yer ears as a child, big smack in the head, too many heavy metals, mercury and sh^t, in ya diet,...WTF?

It's a serious problem, I don't envy anybody suffering from it, and curse the shites who laugh at another's problems, ded-heds.

My guess is that travel outside the US reaffirmed his belief in existential nihilism. It's surely sad . I couldn't stop reading of his plight once started. He was just a kid. RIP.

I think I'll call my son today.

Judging from the manic effort he put into those rambling websites, then the severe depression, bipolar disorder is a good guess.

Bipolar disorder, formerly known as manic depression, is a condition that affects your moods, which can swing from one extreme to another

Now that's how it should be done, write a note giving away your money to the Police, and then that avoids the Police from having to lose it.

^^Well he obviously didn't die in some drunken stupor and skint, which goes to show

Bipolar continually claws away at those susceptible, It's something that can strike at any moment, eg. one moment happily washing the dishes, drop a spoon and then flip, breaking plates and thinking that the world is going against them again. Sufferers get scared to go out, to be judged constantly, get panic attacks when they are out and get this sudden feeling of despair and anger.

They will have 'up' days when they do socialise and enjoy conversation and interaction but their massive lack of confidence often sees them rambling on hoping to impress and give an impression of being 'on the up' This can be when others think they're an oddball. They'll often give themselves a running commentary of solutions, speaking out loud when out and about or at home.

I did a years counselling course last year which gave me an insight. It sure isn't pretty.

At least he went out the way he wanted

Hmmm... I've seen a lot more than 1 years worth of mental illness, and it seems to me that a lot of it is software-induced stuff that people talk themselves into - a grey spectrum of response to stress and lack of exposure to proactively taking on and addressing challenges. It's not really real mental illness but learned and reinforced behaviours that aren't corrected early. The same goes for sociopathy as for neurosis.
Some it is what I would call real mental illness - psychosis - where the hardware is damaged and this a whole different ball game. This looks more like manic-depressive neurosis. Someone very cut off from external influences over a long period of time.

My best mate killed himself with a similar affliction. Lovely bloke, I still miss him to this day.

Sometimes the nicest people have to endure the most painful things, we can only imagine how they feel.

It makes me sad to read some heartless comments on here towards our fellow man.
Regardless, I don't wish any pain or illness on anyone.

    RIP.
