80,000 Chinese Expected in Chiang Mai over Chinese New Year

Over 80,000 Chinese tourists expected over the Chinese New Year according to the Chiang Mai Tourism Business Association who are preparing for the influx.

President of the board, Pornchai Jitnawasatien, said in a press conference on February 5 that over 80,000 Chinese visitors are expected in Chiang Mai over the Chinese New Year period, with almost 90% of hotels and tour packages booked up until February 16.

He also added that sales are expected to go up as prices of popular products are cheaper than last year, meaning tourists may buy more.

Enjoy - two here in Puerto Galera in the last week. Don't mind them on their home turf, despise the when they travel in groups.

They always travel in groups - even on their home turf.

Never ceases to amaze me how so many Thais pretend to have Chinese blood; rather like the numbers of Pakistanis who pretend to have Arab blood, as if it's something to be expecially proud of.

I was just there a few weeks ago and it seemed there were already more than 80,000 Chinese people running around.

Definitely the wrong type of tourists then.

Probably don't even have elite cards.

Always funny watching Thais getting beaten at a game they consider their own.

I think it's fair to say that Chinese tourists are a bunch of kuntz.

Horrible kuntz, what with their bandy vitamin D defficiency gait and complete lack of manners, to say nothing of shitting and spitting everywhere.

Many of those who come here on cheap tours are low class. I've flown mainland Chinese airlines to the USA 5 times, and the class of Chinese travelers on the flights between Thailand and China are quite different than those on the connecting flights between China and the USA.

Oh shit, I'm flying Peking to Bkk soon, but am assuming the London to Peking should be slightly better, only 10hrs. Headphones, eye mask and ''earplugs'' (blu tack)

I think it's safe to say these low end Chinks are currently world champs

Perhaps the ones flying from China to the US are debt collectors?

I wonder, can't they fence them in? Or build a replica Chiang Mai in China?

Chinese tourists in plane tantrum, travel agency face penalties

    Delightful.

Whatever could this bird be on about?

It's the young, single ones traveling in 2s and 3s - the best of the lot, most educated, most likely to shag.

And some are puzzled why a few of us live in the bush, reasonably isolated from the same cvnts - Chinese, Farang, etc.

All the same within some perspectives.

I agree with this one, I had a few encounter with chinese ladies traveling in small groups, they were OK (respecting personal space, not talking loudly as if they were owning the place), and they were not shy, and were asking strange questions for a firts encounter (do I have children? do I want children? when? would I like to visit Shang Hai?)... my wife didn't appreciate so much

Travellling in groups tends to exacerbate the worst sides of people, it applies to all nationalities (a group of French tourists at a Market or Monument generally will bring some disturbances around, as would a group of Russians, Spanish ...), the pb is that most chineses travel in such large groups ...
