Thai Smile passengers to buy extra ticket for creepy infant 'angel' dolls

Thai Smile Airways says if owners of "Child's Angels" don't buy tickets for the popular life-like dolls they will be treated as hand luggage.

Coffee, tea or chucky: A woman lovingly embraces her Child's Angel doll.

The dolls, made to the same proportions as infants, have become fashionable since several celebrities adopted them in the belief they bring good fortune.

The owners take the dolls through a ceremony to draw angels into them in a craze that has swept the country. Believers normally take care of them as their children and dress them .....

Can you imagine sitting yourself down, fastening your seatbelt, and you see yourself sat next to a 45 year old man....with a fucking doll?

Clearly, a fair proportion of the nation must have been sa-leeping on the day the big fella upstairs was allocating brain cells.

i have seen quite a few of these doll carrying crazies around bangkok in the past couple of weeks.

i find it alarmingly strange, somewhat disquieting and not a little frightening that thais, on the outside appearing so "normal" are so susceptible to what surely can only be described as a serious and dangerous mental instability encompassing infantilism and hysteria.

in an advanced society, rather than pandering to their psychosis these people would be quickly tasered, strapped to a gurney by burly paramedics, removed from the general population and rushed off to a mental institution for some high voltage electro convulsive therapy and intravenous lithium.

Thai Smile Airways says if owners of "Child's Angels" don't buy tickets for the popular life-like dolls they will be treated as hand luggage.

The dolls, made to the same proportions as infants, have become fashionable since several celebrities adopted them in the belief they bring good fortune.

The owners take the dolls through a ceremony..to draw angels into them in a craze that has swept the country. Believers normally take care of them as their children and dress them up in beautiful outfits.

According to a bulletin issued to the airline's cabin crew members, passengers who come on board with the dolls will be classified into two groups.

For those who do not buy extra plane tickets for their dolls, the items will be regarded as a piece of carry-on baggage with a weight of no more than seven kilogrammes.

The number of Child's Angels taken... on board must be documented, while passengers with the dolls will be barred from sitting in exit seats and other seats reserved for those who need special care.

For those who buy extra seats for their dolls, booking staff are instructed to fill in the name “Child's Angel" in the passenger registration, record who their owners are and how many of the dolls they have with them.

Passengers with the dolls will only be allowed to sit in window seats. According to the guidelines, snacks and drinks will be served to the dolls while seatbelts must be fastened for them during take-off and landing.

The airline on Saturday issued a statement to explain the guideline, which it said was intended to be an internal document. It said more than 40 passengers had brought their Child's Angel on board over the past two or three months and the guideline was needed for cabin crew staff to deal with them. Some customers were unhappy when cabin crew members put their dolls in overhead compartments or under the seats, the airline said.

The guideline outlines the procedure for how crew members treat the dolls respectfully while not infringing on the airline's safety requirements.

Thai Smile CEO Woranate Laprabang said most passengers carrying the dolls put the items on their laps or strapped them into the seat next to them, insisting they are valuable. The practice may obstruct or disturb other passengers, he said.

He said the dolls can be put on seats if they are unoccupied, but they must have their seat belts fastened to prevent them from being thrown through the air in the event of turbulence.
even more alarming is the fact that the airline is actually taking these zomboids seriously and allocating seats and meals to their exorcist/chucky like monstrosities.

I'm assuming people carry these freaks with them on the skytrain?

I had to dump a clear bag of bananas before I was allowed on the skytrain a while back. It's clearly a case of one rule for brainless native primates and another for intelligent luuk kreung health freaks

    What a total fuck up.

Err, most Thai remain children well past puberty. It's a given. That they should wish to carry dolls around is therefore unsurprising, and of course the belief benign spirits are attracted to the toys is pretty well par for the course.

I saw a crash t'other day and I made a mental note of the vehicle's registration number which I intended to pass onto the wingman for lottery purposes. This is normal, right?

How do they hold their handbags or shopping? Doll in one hand, phone in the other. It's a mystery.

Supernatural dolls welcome aboard Thai planes with child ticket

A Thai airline will allow passengers to purchase seats for life-like dolls that their owners treat as real children due to their belief that they possess supernatural powers.

Thai Smile Airways, which is a part of national carrier Thai Airways, said in an internal memo that dolls with tickets will be served snacks and drinks, though they will be barred from sitting in exit rows. Owners who take dolls on the plane without tickets will have them treated as carry-on luggage.

The dolls known as Luk Thep, or Child Angels, have become increasingly popular in Thailand after several celebrities extolled their benefits. The dolls, which can sell for hundreds of dollars, are thought to possess the spirits of child angels and their owners pamper them with brand-name clothes and accessories due to the belief that a well-cared-for doll will bring good fortune.

The memo from Thai Smile explains to staff that the Luk Thep dolls can be treated like children because they have undergone a "spiritualisation" process that breathes life into them. In addition to being barred from exit rows, the dolls must also buckle up during take off and landing.

A Bangkok buffet restaurant is also running a special for the dolls.

"In the past month, more than 30 customers have brought their Luk Thep to eat at Neta Grill," the restaurant said on its Facebook page Sunday.

"Neta Grill is open to all worshipers and we're glad to serve Luk Thep at children's prices on the condition that all of the food ordered is consumed."

More evidence of why a satirical news site could never take off in Thailand.

"According to the guidelines, snacks and drinks will be served to the dolls"

I read this yesterday, whilst dealing with the sunday hangover, only now is the full insanity sinking in...

Pay a ticket for a doll and serve it food and drinks...

How long before the dolls get their own facebook pages and are up there on trip advisor giving opinions on airline catering and safety standards.

It's so fucked, it must happen.

    Gotta love the insanity here.

Just saw at BTS Siam a guy carrying a huge carrot cushion on his shoulder. He was holding it like it was his baby.

That must be the start of a new vegan fad, yes.

My missus included. She sees nothing wrong it what these people are doing. She didn't see anything wrong with this story either.
My daughter has had an ear infection for years and received medical treatment accordingly. A couple of years ago my MiL got together with a few other local women to discuss my daughters ear problem. They decided that they needed to find a pregnant woman who would spit in my daughters ear, and that would cure the problem.
I asked my missus if she'd let someone spit in her daughters ear and she said she would. Because my MiL believed in it then she really had no choice. It's what they believe and you shouldn't knock them for it was her argument.
Luckily they couldn't find a pregnant woman and the suggestion died away. Yes they're all fooking crackers.
