Luke Miller Thai pool death: Family 'concern' over inquiry

The family of a British backpacker who died on holiday in Thailand say they have "concerns" over the investigation into his death.
Luke Miller, 26, of the Isle of Wight, died on the island of Koh Tao on Friday.
Thai police said a post-mortem examination showed he drowned.
But, his sister Maria said the family would not rely on what Thai authorities said as there was so much speculation as to what happened.

Mr Miller, a bricklayer from Newport, travelled to Thailand with a friend on 22 December to spend Christmas and New Year's Eve there.
He was found dead on 8 January in a hotel pool, on the same island where two British backpackers, Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were murdered.
His family said they have been receiving "different versions" of what might have happened.
According to police, Mr Miller's body was found on Friday morning at Sunset Bar on Sairee Beach.
Witnesses and CCTV footage at the bar showed he was there until the early hours of the morning.
But, the security guards who regularly search the pool for lost belongings after parties did not find Mr Miller when they made a search at 05:30 local time. His body was discovered at about 07:20.
His sister Maria said: "There's different answers everywhere, there is nothing set in stone, no actual facts have been displayed... I do have concerns about how it has been dealt with.
"I don't think anyone knows what really went on, but we will find answers and we will get answers."

Police Lt. Col. Napa Senatip, a police investigator on Koh Tao who handled the case, told the BBC that police were not looking further into the case because "the investigation showed no clues signalling that this was a murder".

Jaysus - Koh Tao is fast becoming known as 'Assisted Suicide Island'.

Thailand really is shifting up the ranks as a shitehole country to visit. I knew that years ago, but gave it a second, even third chance (got drugged and robbed, got pickpocketed, saw Thais beat the living crap out of each other, dealt with their sullen attitudes).

Fuck that shit, Philippines trip booked.

Apparently the DJ booth had barbed wire around the top too stop people climbing on it
This was the cause of the lacerations to Lukes face

Will the truth every come out?

    Poor family!!

Koh Tao needs to be put on the FCO danger list! It's like a war zone!

Mate off mine has just returned from Thailand and tried to "explore" Koh Tao..

He said they where herded around like cattle by two tatooed heavily built Thais.

On the boat after visiting the death island he asked the boat hand if he thought the Burmese where guilty. The boat hand put an imaginary gun too his head and said "mafia!", then pulled the imaginary trigger.(True Story)

Apparently the body displays more injuries than those previously reported and somewhat incompatible with those likely to have been inflicted by a chance encounter with "barbed wire". Needless to say, the British embassy is taking a back seat and the family is left to deal with the mess on their own. One is still awaiting news of an autopsy but quite by whom is not known.

Miller's two companions left the island in some haste and possibly not of their own volition.

Nichola Gissing who was on holiday with her brother James and Luke, all from the Isle of Wight, today posted on the new Facebook site 'Luke's Legacy'

“They hate us over there. Land of Smiles, my ass. Land of snakes and murderers, Mafia, rapists and corruption.”

She was joined by Luke’s sister Maria who said: “This won't be swept under the carpet . . . guaranteed.
“If anything good is to come out of this crazy surreal nightmare then warning others and getting justice should be the way forward.
“That island needs all the bad publicity it can get. This can't happen again. I wouldn't wish this heartbreak on anyone. Xxxxx”
James and Nichola fled to the mainland after Miller’s body was transferred for examination in the provincial capital Surat Thani. Police had initially seized their passports and mobile phones. They went into the hospital and took pictures when other people’s backs were turned.

They boarded a London bound flight on the 15th complaining the British Embassy was of little use, telling friends they were scared and had been followed.

KOH TAO ' I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH ANIMAL CRUELTY BEFORE' - Andrew Drummond

Despite anger on Facebook by Luke’s elder sister Maria, and Nichola Gissing, a travelling companion, Thai Police say they have closed the investigation after insisting on handling the post mortem themselves. They said that there are no clues signaling murder.

    Luke Miller

At the Bangkok Police hospital a spokesman says it can hang onto the body for fourteen days but did not say whether the body had been released or not. In Britain over £11,000 has been raised to ‘Bring Luke Home’ and give him a sendoff.

But almost certainly a post mortem will be conducted and inquest held first.

Attempts had been made by Luke’s travelling companions to have the body sent to Thailand’s Central Institute of Forensic Science headed by Dr. Porntip Rojanasunan, who gave evidence against the police in the trial of Wai Phyo and Zaw Lin for the murders of Britons Hannah Witheridge and David Miller, from Norfolk and Jersey respectively.. This was to ensure if indeed there are discrepancies there will be Thai witnesses to testify if needed.

As for his mother I cannot begin to imagine again all the pain that poor bloody woman has to go through , I lost my youngest son when he was the same age .

Unfortunately the full gravity of what has happened will nowhere near be with her yet , it leaves you with a feeling of having no arms or legs , kind of helplessness I guess.

I wish her well and her son R I P
