Another Brit dead on Koh Tao!

An Isle of White man has tragically died whilst on a ‘holiday of a lifetime’ in Thailand just days after celebrating the New Year.

Luke Miller, 27, flew out to Thailand from Heathrow Airport for 5 weeks with a friend on 22nd December, but sadly the Islander died whilst on the Island of Koh Tao with 3 friends – the same Island where British backpackers Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were murdered.

The full circumstances surrounding the death are currently unknown, however the Foreign Office have confirmed to Island Echo that local authorities are investigating the death.

Mr Miller posted on social media just days ago saying that he was ‘living life to the full’.

In a statement issued tonight (Friday), a spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has said:

“We are providing assistance to the family of a British national who has died in Koh Tao, Thailand. Local authorities are investigating the death and we will remain in contact with them.”

Bit of an odd coincidence that his name was also Miller.

Indeed, also the lack off information is suspicious.

Another fit and healthy, young tourist does not return from Koh Tao.

How many deaths is that now?

In a statement by the Foreign Office, a spokesman said: "We are providing assistance to the family of a British national who died in Koh Tao, Thailand.
"Local authorities are investigating the death and we will remain in contact with them."
There is no suggestion the unnamed man was murdered.

British man found dead in Koh Tao

A 27 year old British man has been found dead in Koh Tao. 27 year old Luke Miller was travelling with friends on the island. Details of his death are yet to be established. It is believed the man flew out from Heathrow five weeks ago with a friend. Mr Miller posted on his Facebook page “Can honestly say this new year I am living the dream of to the full moon party on a speed boat drink cocktails strawberry daiquiris living life to the full yolo so let’s do this” on the 31st of December. His friend posted “Saddest day 😢 on hearing the sad news of Luke” on her Facebook page yesterday. Early reports suggest he was from the Isle of White although this is yet to be confirmed. More information will be reported as details come in.

Briton Dies in Hotel Pool on Koh Tao; Police Rule Out Murder

KOH TAO — A 26-year-old British man was found dead early this morning in a hotel swimming pool on Tao island, police say.

According to Police Lt Col Napha Senathip, an investigative officer at Koh Tao Police Station, the Briton died after taking a plunge into the swimming pool. Police believe murder was not involved, Napha said.

“He must have climbed to the roof of a [nearby] DJ booth, jumped off, and his head hit the swimming pool floor, killing him,” Napha said. He identified the deceased as a 26-year-old tourist from the United Kingdom.

Police also found small wounds on his face that they believe were caused by barbed wire around the DJ booth as he climbed to the roof, he said.

CCTV footage seen by police suggests that he may have been "heavily drunk" in moments prior to his death, according to Napha.

Koh Tao, a popular tourist destination in southern Thailand, is also where two British backpackers were murdered in September 2014, a case that attracted widespread media attention. Two Burmese migrant workers were found guilty of the murders last month and sentenced to death.

However, Napha stressed there is no sign of murder in the latest tourist fatality on the island.

“We found no sign of murder of struggles on his body,” Napha said, referring to the 26-year-old Briton who died in the swimming pool. Nevertheless, investigation is ongoing, and more CCTV footage is being inspected, Napha told Khaosod English.

The tourist’s body is now awaiting autopsy at Surat Thani Hospital, and the British Embassy in Bangkok has been informed, the officer said.

The British Embassy released the following statement:

“We are providing assistance to the family of a British national who has died in Koh Tao, Thailand. We will remain in contact with local authorities who are investigating.”

When contacted by Khaosod English today the Embassy declined to give further details and simply re-confirmed the contents of the statement above.

The Isle of Wight County Press, a regional British newspaper based on the Isle of Wight, an island in Southern England, believes that the deceased may be from that county in Britain.

From the various Facebook comments disclosed in other reports it seems this Miller was simply just another self indulgent, immature, British idiot whose idea of "living the dream" was to consume as many drinks and God knows what else in as short a time as possible on a scruffy tropical island where he and his "mates" would find similar company.

Drunkenness is the hallmark of British post adolescents everywhere and the weekly mayhem that is perpetrated by them in most towns and cities in the UK is inflicted on countless resorts throughout Europe. The true tragedy of all this is the ghastly reality that in the past twenty years this dreary, lumpen demographic has found its way to Thailand.

The chap was 26 years old yet behaved as if he was 16.

    Sum num na.

There is a pitiful postscript to this miserable wretch's life in that in order to have his body returned to the UK it was necessary for the family to beg for the necessary funds on the internet.

God how I despise them, not for their lumpen stupidity, not for their wasteful, pointless pseudo hedonism, not for their useless, miserable vacuity but for the inescapable fact they invariably have no shame.

Lying dead in a puddle of blood and puke in some deadbeat, third-world slum resort sure is "living the dream".

In the interests of journalistic accuracy, he was drifting dead around a swimming pool.

Isle of Wight community rally around after tragic death in Thailand

An Isle of Wight family have been left devastated and heartbroken by the sudden, tragic death of Luke Miller, who died on Thursday (7th January), whilst on holiday in Koh Tao, Thailand.

Tributes to 26 year old from Ryde, have poured onto social media over the last two days, alongside a GoFundMe appeal to raise enough money to help bring Luke home to his family.

Over £8,000 raised in 48 hours.

The initial target of £5,000 was reached within just 15 hours, with the current total having already broken £8,000, only two days after the appeal was launched.

More than 450 people have donated to the fund, with donations ranging from £5 to £500. Many have said they didn’t know Luke, but were touched by the news and wanted to help.

    How you can donate.

If you’d like to support the appeal you can donate via the Bring Luke Miller home campaign.

The Foreign office confirmed they are in contact with local authorities who are investigating the circumstances surrounding Luke’s sad death.

Our sincerest thoughts are with Luke’s family and friends.

Luke's mother Sara Cotton told the BBC parents should not allow their children to go to the island.
She said: "This has ripped my heart out... Luke was living the dream out there.
"He had a tattoo saying 'living the dream' and that was what he was doing... I personally didn't want him to go though.
"He had thousands of friends and was a fun-loving son who was just living life to the full.
"If I knew then what I know now about that island, he wouldn't have gone. I would've hidden his passport. I don't think parents should let their kids go out there to this island."

    RIP to the guy

Shit happens, especially if you're looking after it doing this kind of stunt. So far I don't see the link between the island reputation of murders cases swept under the carpet and this "accident"... better wait for more inputs IMO

Concerning the crowdfunding, I thought that if you bought your air ticket with your credit-card, then you may benefit some sort of travel insurance (to bring you back in case of medical problem, and even your corpse if the problem occured was really serious ...) ...

This case is perhaps not as it was first portrayed by the authorities.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the various reports claimed that Miller had climbed in an intoxicated state up to the DJ's balcony overlooking the swimming pool and jumped from there into the pool striking the back of his head on the concrete apron, killing himself. In the absence of any other reports and given the published details concerning the injuries sustained one would assume there were witnesses and corroboration from any medical staff.

It seems that there are in fact no witnesses and Miller died as a result of drowning. He apparently suffered facial cuts which the police have speculated he sustained when he climbed into the DJ's enclosure which is protected by barbed wire but there is no evidence produced by them in support of this supposition.

So, a young man is found dead in a small swimming pool in a busy holiday resort with cuts to his face but despite the absence of any witnesses or forensic examination of any scientific merit the police have miraculously come up with this rather detailed account of his death and have closed down their investigation?

Given the circumstances of the death, the body of the deceased should surely have been repatriated by the UK authorities for examination by a Home Office pathologist or, at the very least, they should have commissioned their own autopsy here in Thailand.

    Ah well.
